Lack of Fanning - Cause of aborts?
    #2042201 - 10/25/03 04:52 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

I'm a noob to growing and I haven't been fanning because I didn't know I needed to. Now that I've read a few posts on here I see that it is very important. I've got a perlite terrarium setup with some cubies and a bunch of primordia are beginning to grow with a few larger mushrooms. However, many of the primordia are turning into aborts (caps were brown, but are turning black and not growing as well as the rest). So, my question is: Are aborts caused by too much C02 building up close to the perlite?

Also, I've got about three healthy looking shrooms growing out of one spot, but they've got a lot of mycelium around their bases -- it's pretty damn fluffy! Is this normal?

Thanks in advance

i really don't think the "black" caps aren't good. Need to pick them right away before the rot and cause contams.

They aren't THAT much more potent than regular shroomies that you would want to modify your dosage.

So should i pick up the aborts with black caps immediatelly or can i leave them inside for some more time. Is there any chance to revitalize aborts?

cant revitalize. You should be picking them before their heads turn black. They'll get darker and duller first, that's the time to pick, I don't eat ones that are all the way black.

Yeah, pick them as soon as you notice them.

If you don't pick them they will die and the mycelium will eat them back up. Seems like a vector of contamination to me. I'd pick them once you know they're aborting, and patch the bald spots (just mycelium) with fresh casing.

try to predict which ones are doomed to be aborts and pick them before they turn black! That way you have some little guys that arent nasty tasting and black that are "packed to the eyeballs" as hanky put it.

Skippy has seen less aborts since he hooked up his fan it could be a coincidence
