a ? for those who pour their own agar

do you ever pour a bunch of dishes and store them for later use?
it's a pain to get out all the supplies and equipment to make a new batch of agar when you only need one or two dishes.
i was wondering if anyone knows of a good way to make about 100 dishes one day and store them contaminate-free and neatly for up to 1 month.

They tend to dry up over time. Sealed with parafilm, they remain contaminant free, and usuable for a month no problem. They start drying up after monthS in storage. Pour them thicker then normal and you should have no problems.
Cultures poured thick and removed from cold storage after 2 years were still usuble by the emerging mycelium coming out of hibernation. Shallow pours crack after a few months to six months.

Petries sealed (parafilm or saran wrap) should keep in the fridge for at least a year....

I'd really put them in a fridge or somewhere cool for long-term storage.... Just me.

I prepare two liters at a time. I normally get 30 dishes out of a liter. I store the extra plates on the very top shelf of the fridge to keep them cleaner.

they will go in the fridge. i just want to find or make some kind of container that they will fit securely into, so that they won't slide around, fall over, and get contaminated.
maybe something like this:

Why fridge? If they are sterile and sealed and stored at room temperature, they won?t spoil and you at least are assured they are clean. If you put them in fridge, you could hide a potentional dormant contamination that could break out once you inoculate the dishes and incubate them.
I store them at room temperature for that reason.

i store mine in the incubator because the teperature doesn't fluctuate in there. if sealed with plastic wrap, they don't dry out and the steady temp prevents condensation from forming inside the dishes.
yeah, for some reason at room temperature, condensation forms on the inside of the petri dish.

If you wantto store uninoculated plates for long its worth adding a bit of h2o2 imo.

I work in a lab; we always store them in the fridge. Anno -- that makes sense, too, but it's just never the way I've done things -- always thought it a contamination risk. I always leave them out for like a week or so to make sure they're clean, but then I put them in the fridge just in case....
Leaving them out can't really hurt, though, if they're sterile and don't dry out....

This is an old post but I make up the dishes and wrap four at a time in parafilm. Then place 4 stacks of 4 dishes inside the polly bag and then seal with parafilm. They then stack up realy nicly bag ontop of bag in the closet.

I make up 2 liters at a time which gives me about 80 dishes (100mm). Then seal with parafilm. I then put 20 dishes in a gallon zip lock bag and seal that. I leave them out for a week or two. Then in the fridge they go. Never had a problem. I have not done any longevity tests but all have produced. bonsai
