oh and about the metal thing, black sabbath may have made it known but i think the credit here belongs to King Crimson. Robert Fripp practically invented the use of heavy distortion/overdrive long before sabbath hit the scene.
No heavy distortion=no heavy metal...

yeah, i knew that would come up 
i know heavy metal isn't only about distortion, but just the sound of king crimsom is so... metal... I dont know if you have heard Crimson, but if they are not at least some way crucial to the development of "metal" music, they were way ahead of their time...

Nobody likes the white stripes? I like the stuff they have. They keep it simple and catchy, and every single video they've released is more like art then the pop crap on TV.

I like em and I don't think they're overrated just yet.

I'm sure you will agree with me that the next "Pop Stars", "Pop Idol", "Whatever" will be wank, and a waste of your time.
Personally I will vote for anything as long as it is pointless.

eminem is overrated
someone said white stripes music videos were art.
there is an exhibition being held in my city at the moment, where a white stripes video is being repeatedld played over and over again. its part of a pixel themed gallery which i can't seem to remember the name of. It's quite a good art gallery too, i think they have a monet.

I think all those lame metal/rap bands that became popular in the late 1990s are totally overated. This includes Korn, Limp Biskit, Kid Rock, etc. Whatever, they suck.
Also, all the music that passes as "punk" these days is quite lame too. Something about really melodic, sappy pop songs played on MTV under the once-rebellious name of punk rock is quite lame in my book.
I'll say that 99% of what is being played on MTV and/or big corporate commerical radio sucks and is over-rated.

i can't see how anyone could dislike the beatles. if you think they aren't any good, you haven't heard enough of their work or your taste in music blows. period.
what are some of these beatles songs that you "cant listen to it for more than about 15 seconds"? i'm very curious...
if it's their older stuff, i can see that. that was when they were first coming up, they had talent, but they weren't really original. they were just playing what everyone else was playing... they were pop-y, they were a boy band.
then they got simply brilliant. listen to revolver, sgt. peppers, abbey road, and the white album and tell me they aren't brilliant. these guys were geniuses.
the beatles are legendary. 200 years from now people will remember the beatles.
seriously. listen to revolver all the way through. do it.
(also... this is no an a subjective matter. what i'm saying here is not my opinion. it is an objective truth that the beatles were the greatest band of all time. it's not a matter of personal preference, it's a matter of fact.  )

Hey, man, I don't consider KoRn overated. They are full of talent. They might have come up with a totally original kind of music that sounds great, is unconvential (at least, until everyone started attempting to leech their sound), and was capable of carrying a lot of meaning and emotion.
If anything, KoRn is underated by all the old fucks that write it off so quickly...

It's probably "Fell in love with a girl" which is lego-riffic. The White Stripes are very good to their fans and aren't the corporate pigs other bands are.

Actually, I did exagerate a little in my previous post. I do like the song "A day in the life" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" is kinda cool. But, Honestly dude, I just really can't get into the Beatles for the most part. I have listened to a lot of it because I know so many people like them, but I just plain do not like most of their shit. Just pecause a shit load of people have the same opinion, does not make that opinion a fact.

as do I. Realize, this is MY honest opinion, I think the white stripes are talentless, unoriginal, going-for-nostalgic group of too few people.
really some of the worst music I've heard.
It would be even worse if they were dicks, but you say they're good to their fans, that's really admirable-honestly. The worst is when you love a band and then meet them and they're assholes.
