>>Nordic and Baltic Psilocybe semilanceata thread 2014<< * 2
    #20446959 - 08/20/14 05:49 AM (9 years, 5 months ago)

It is that time of the year again when the air gets chilly and the crowing of the crows
sound just a little more melancholic - the autumn is knocking on our Boreal doors.

And as luck would have it, even though I'm very occupied hunting for edibles these
days, I chanced upon a couple of fields yesterday and today. And they're suddenly
everywhere - fruiting in full force. Still this was only a token hunt for me, a little teaser
before I surrender fully to the craving.

Yet enough I guess to justify an official thread. If you read this and are hunting for
Psilocybe semilanceata in Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania,
Iceland, Faeroes or Norway - please feel free to share your finds or discuss these
little beauties.

Then for some pictures...

Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute or an hour or a day or even a year but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

Yeah, I get the impression that this year they are coming with a heavier onset than
usual. Normally you'll see a couple then next time you go out there are a bit more.
Now it is like KABOOM! But the summer has been unusually hot and long, so I guess
the mycelium has had good fortune to grow strong and dense.

These were picked just from the roadside, I didn't even bother to dive into the fields.

I don't mind you touching it at all. I never treat my photos other than by cropping or
maybe resizing. I use the "normal" setting for colors on my camera (it is not very advanced).

It looks to me you made the picture a tad more saturated - what did you actually do?

I think I'll wait investing in software until I've got myself a better camera.

In the mean time if you are happy with a pic and want it touched up in some way id be happy to help. I see the making of a great myco photographer, your shots remind me of Inski's for some reason, though obviously not at refined, but i see similar style, maybe im crazy haha.

I made the background white, took down the highlights, increased the shadows, increased the whites, decreased the saturation, increased the vibrance, retouched the white balance again, masked the background using that to shade, darken, and decrease sharpness in the background, increased exposure.

it looks sataurated your right, but the colors popped when i changed the exposure.

It's actually a valley between two mountains, heightened by a moraine. So Fleindalen
would match better, lol. There is a tractor road running up from one piece of farmland on
the southern side, past a spruce forest and then going downwards into farmland again
on the northern side. I found most on the north slope, the southern will start producing
later. Both sides are really good places for picking, mostly hidden from view, except from
the cattle and sheep, of course...

Lower altitude habitat - a down town tram track. From this afternoon.

Can you see it?

And it's made out of gold...

Made some new acquaintances yesterday along a forest road, I was one my way to hunt
for edibles passing through from sheep pastures. Seeing some dung in the road I couldn't
help scanning the grass and thus we met.

The road:

Some new friends:

Sheep pasture, not grazed for a while, quite tall grass:

Wow... fantastic shots Anglerfish. I need to head down South some time and see if I can find myself some libs. Pasture hunting seems like a whole different experience to wood chip hunting.

Beautiful place, and your photographs are very nice (natural eye it seems).  I love the landscape photographs, especially the last one that you posted.

I strongly recommend it. A nice little forest will do - even the most boring shrubs will
make you think you're in Lothlorien. :sunny::mushroom2:
