The Heart and the Lungs
    #2044080 - 10/26/03 05:56 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Last night I was lying on my back, zoning out as I always do before I go to sleep, and I was starting to feel my heart beat echo throughout my body as I was listening and feeling my breath go in and out, and it made me start to think about what the heart and the lungs symbolize.

Let's look at the heart. We have no control over the beating of our heart. It is a mindless machine constantly working to keep us alive. Forever beating; thumpa thump, thumpa thump, thumpa thump, thumpa thump. It is this constant thumping that sort of dazes us and cuts us off from what really is.

The lungs, however, takes from the formless and sustains the form that is us. There is so much being in breathing. And we can consciously breathe.

I don't know, I guess it is the rhythm that keeps us concentrated on living our life and the melody that floats in the background and shapes our experience, what contains the cosmic truth and works with a rhythm to create life.....

Hehe, just some thoughts I had last night, drifting into subconsciousness... Feel free to think on all of this and add thoughts of your own.
Peace.

It's possible to control your heart rate if you focus hard enough, I even know some people who have been able to speed up and slow down their heart rate to a certain degree who have never really tried hard to learn.

Try breathing with the sea as the waves come and go, i find it great when meditating. It's more relaxed when the tide is low  .

Yeah, I thought about that, but it really isn't something that everyone can naturally do and I couldn't find a way to fit it into what I was saying.
Peace.

Yeah but this can be very dangerous as it is possible to stop your heart as well. I also think buddist monks can also do this kinda of thing so as to go in a hibanation state, so they can survive extreme tempreatures for long periods of time.
