I made a LI the 3-4 day ago and inoculated 9 jars. There is very little grown. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

It happens when you over blend. It can take 6 days to recover. I notice that high water to mycelium ratio needs more solution often.

Thanks. Im using Pastys easy LC mixed with Mudas LI blend. I basically grow the culture on the agar with the blender lid on already. I then add sterilised water to the jar.

I see the syringe you have goes by ml? So when inoculating a quart jar you use 10ml or did u mean 10cc which would be just a tiny squirt?

Thanks munchauzen i was going to use that but a cheap second hand oster near me just came up on ebay so ive bought that
Is there a reason why the injection port and filter for air exchange havnt been added to the lid with the blender attachment? Im considering doing that it just seems like an extra step that could be avoided, making another lid with port and filter, unless of course im missing something?

Yeah, I was also thinking about including a injection port, if there's space.
But what do you need air exchange for? I'd use it only to shred the agar suck it up into a syringe to inoculate grain jars. No need for air exchange.
BTW: I'm not sure whether the Oster blender can withstand 120C in the pressure cooker. How often can you sterilize it without damaging?

Ive made the blender attachement, well actually ive changed a lot. I havnt cut a hole i a lid as shown in the tek. When i recieved the blender the rubber seal that came with it is ecactly the same size as the jar mouth. So i glued this to the blade side of the blade assembly, i sanded the surfaces first so give the glue something to stick to, i think.this step could be skipped ut i didnt want to risk the seal falling on the floor mid exchange. and then just use the ring to secure like you would do a normal lid. Really easy. I also added holes for injection port and air filter.
Ive added air filter so i dont have problems withdrawing the solution
I guess i will find out how long it lasts, replacement blade assemblys are really cheap on ebay so i feel confident ill get Β£10s worth out of it

Nice assembly. I would rather open the lid in a SAB and uptake the LI and use a selfhealing port. But thats just me. My lids have the ports too, but I never use them.

That's cool, but how do you prevent the liquid from pouring out of the air filter hole?

When you silicone the blender lid and the mason jar lid together, what do you do with the rubber gasket? Is that also siliconed to the blade side of the lid or did you take that out completely?

Awesome Tek! I have enjoyed reading post by post the first 5 pages and look forward to reading them all. I must admit I find it strange that being such a niche community, there are so many different opinions on how to do things and most people are convinced their way is the best way. I am barely 2 days in to my first agar to grain transfer so please know this comment comes from humble hands. The way I see it, this LI is basically a LC that contains way more live mycelium by volume than a standard LC and also does not require the necessary delay for colonization before inoculating your grain. I can already hear my wife asking me what I am doing to her blender when she catches me after work tomorrow dissecting her blender.

Iβm trying something similar with an autoclavable blender bottle I rigged up. Also got a magnetic stir bar in there to let LC broth colonize after agar is blended, will hold stir bar to side with magnet while blending, anyways, I guess unless I am taking the agar and expanding it with nutrients in the liquid broth I just donβt see the point of turning a perfectly colonized agar wedge into liquid agar, I mean expanding the mass makes sense with nutrients and a few days time, but to just turn it liquid seems like an extra contam vector, I mean I split 1 Petri dish into 10 jars anyways, and with a shake or sometimes two during colonization. It seems 2 weeks is about right for the whole process from wedge. I guess if you are doing say 20 or 40 jars with the one agar plate than I could see the benefit here. Did you say how many jars you can nock up with 1 Petri expanded to liquid?

I tried to make li using the blender. Blended for 4 seconds on low. Its been 8 days no and no recovery on grain at all. But on agar it has already recovered and started growing. Anyone know why thats happening. Maybe I should re inoculate them.

This is a really slick idea... can't wait to try it after I finish ironing out the wrinkles of my agar technique Would it be stupid to use LC nutrients instead of water to help the mycelium grow more quickly?
Also, I've never tried blending agar, but would this work with a magnetic stir plate? Or perhaps substituting the pill stir bar with something with edges. Like a ninja star lol. Heck, even filling the jar with some steel ball bearings and some elbow grease?
*Edit: ORRRR...pouring agar into a mason jar with a magnetic stir bar on the bottom. Once colonized, smash up the agar using a rare earth magnet to work the ptfe stir bar...

Turning LI into LC defeats the purpose, are you even reading these things?
Think it through for a minute.
