Chanterelle-a-rama!!! Cantharellus appalachiensis? or...

i hit the motherload with the chants today, you may feast your eyes, i feasted on a small plate of them so far... i'd share if you stopped by. we had some good rains, and today was cool so the bugs were suppressed, so i grabbed the pooch and headed to the park for a quick jaunt. i wasn't really planning on finding 'things' and certainly not so many. had to take off my shirt and fill my sleeves and carried it out by the collar. Had to be ten pounds of em. More than i've ever found before for sure. they were everywhere, i left loads of them behind and tried for the freshest in each patch once i figured out i was standing among hundreds of the lovely lil devils.
does anyone know how to differentiate Cantharellus appalachiensis from Cantharellus cibarius other than by geography and habitat? macro-wise preferably... one of them was pretty wild, with lots of odd spikes about the pilius. gnarly. (pictured)
edit: i think Michael Kuo's page answered that fairly well once i found it... gotta get me some iron salts! iron salts you say? yes, iron salts are for manly mycologists so they can get the girls! (or so i read in another thread)
these were near mostly big old oaks with a few maples and odds and ends mixed in i believe. very little undergrowth where they were found due to the dense canopy. on a hillside. i want to say the north slope of a ravine; the trees fit the description of c. appalachiensis that i found better than cibarius.

largely because i was unaware of the species! i would have to agree with you and heelsplitter based on what new stuff i've read.
sadly i have to admit, my research has been f'n iffy lately due to time constraints and i'm relying heavily on you guys.
thanks again!
good to see you x!!
