A question about Birthing PF cakes.
    #2042692 - 10/25/03 08:24 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

When I get ready to birth my cakes, do I set them in my gro chamber rightside up?

In the PF Tek it looks like they were birthed upside down.

Does it matter? I would think that turning them upside down would hinder growth.

Doesn't matter. Usually fat side, or lid side rather up, to secure them better. Balance wise anyways. It really doesn't matter though. Be sure to give them a nice wet vermiculite base, and maybe drill a hole down the center with a scalpel and through some H2O in the hole.

Thanks W1ll1ams11!
Do I set the cakes directly on the wet perlite? I have seen pix of them sitting on the lid.

Dante Alighieri says don't put them directly on the perlite. He says to place them on saucers ontop of a nice bed of moist vermiculite. He also stresses the resevoir tek, drilling a small hole with a knife or scalpela and filling to the brim with H2O. He said once he had a flush grow strictly from that humid hole! L8rs.

WOW!

Drilling the hole sounds like a good idea.

Do you put the wet verm on the saucer and the saucer on the wet perlite, with the cake going on the wet verm?

This is my 3rd attempt to grow the shroom. I have been using wild prints. Check out my Gro Log

Yes. You want the cake on the vermiculite on the saucer, and then the whole thing goes onto some moist perlite.

I thought you can put the cake right one the verm, that way it wicks into the verm, soaking up valuabe h2o during fruiting. Also drilling a hole sounds like an ok idea, but its an extra step for contamination. Anyways good luck.
