It hard too get the right moisture content with grains. But, as a rule, too dry is much better then too wet.
Having to much water in the grains will cause massive bacteria problems.
By adding more water to your jars, you might cause a bacteria infection.

i always precook my grain. I use a mixed grain birdseed that i cook for 30 minutes. i then drain it and rinse it with tap water. then if fill it in jars and sterilise in a pressure cooker for 60 minutes.
i disagree with Psychonaut. if your grain is too dry it will hardly produce any mushrooms. If your sterilisation prodcedures are ok even wet grain will remain unspoiled. It will however be hard to shake the jars because the grain clumps together.
