Using L.E.Ds (Light Emmiting Diodes) on fungus
    #2041870 - 10/25/03 12:32 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Ok, basically I have set up a stealthy, locked self contained terrarium for my PF cakes. From the out side it simply looks like a tool box with a lock on it - very inconspicuous. Now, I left out one important detail; mushrooms are photosensitive.

To cut a window for light would defeat the whole purpose of a stealth box, because I want my box to be self-contained. Now I was thinking of a solution and figured any kind of bulb or compact fluoro would create to much heat for a small, sealed box. But what would work for my situation would be a small set of LEDs (light emmiting diodes) hooked to a 9V battery or some kind of similar set up.

Now my question is this: would the LEDs produce enough of a spectrum to excite whatever molecuels need to be excited or am I wasting my time?
