Grow Bags
    #2038272 - 10/23/03 10:17 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

alright, i inoculated my grow bags on 10/08/03 and theyre just now starting to develop the mycelium, i can see patches of white developing throughout. The temp in the room was too low so i recently raised it to about 80-85, i am worried cuz most peoples grow bags seem to colonize faster??? I think it mighta been the temp. Any comments, suggestions, should i crumble and mix up the mycelium and substrate??? thanx everyone

everyone complains that grow bags colonize slowly, definetly crumble it up a little bit by squishing it around, should spread out the myc, so it can spread faster. I have a friend who knocked up a bag about a month and half ago and he just started getting myc growth (after he had totally given up after 3 weeks).

Growing the first time tests the patience of almost any grower.

Once you see progress, time will move more quickly.

You will still have wa while to wait till you get shrooms, once you have some, I'm sure you won't mind the wait.

personally, i think alot of the slow growing grow bag thing is due to the fact that you are injecting it directly into the center, and it must colonize from within, outwards. so even though it might be 2-3 weeks before you see growth, its definately been growing 1-2 of those weeks. instead of waiting for the center to colonize like pf cakes, you could fruit or case once the outside is completely colonized, theorhetically.
not to mention, theres more substrate overall to colonize.
just my thoughts on the issue

anyway, good luck, have patience, and congrats.

You should inject near the wall of the bag, not the center of the substrate.

I know someone who innoculated their spawn bag over 3 weeks ago and it's still not fully colonized.
Spawn bags take a while what you need most is patience. It doesn't help them if you look at them and play with them everyday.
What dysphoria said is true I think.
And yes crushed up the mycelium and spreading it around will definetely speed things up.
