'Visual Snow' Called Real, Not Drug Related

Hya found this article, any thoughts?
I find it quite interesting that it's mainly not drug related. Because I've read so much about people who never saw anything " abnormal " in their field of vision. But after 1 trip they was permanently changed or forever noticed it!? ( Visual snow, tracers, floaters )
http://www.medpagetoday.com/MeetingCoverage/AAN/32416 What's your thoughts on this? MY idea is that this phenomenon is something everyone has to a certain degree, but some people are just more hypervigilant then others and it becomes a problem because they can't " unsee/stop thinking ".
Psychedelics make you more aware after the trip, maybe that's the real HPPD? People just seeing a normal thing much more clearer that they ignored before, just like how they ignored Spirituality and mysticism before Shrooms or LSD.

I could have sworn that one time my 'visual snow' was so intense that I could see with my eyes closed in a dark room. Maybe it really happened, or I was just being dumb, but it's interesting to consider that there might be a legitimately perceptive function.

Interesting, a couple of days ago I saw someone post a video of a technique to "see energy" in a dark room on a facebook group. I thought it was just new age BS but seeing this study now there may be something to it. I always thought it was something to do with the rods and cones of the eyes and psychedelics effects.
Anyways here's the video

Ever since I was young I can remember seeing visual snow. For me it is easiest to notice when I am in a dark room. This was long before I ever used any drug.
One time I asked my girlfriend if she could see it, and I tried to describe to her what I saw. She started off by saying she couldn't but as I gave her tips for what to look for she eventually realized that she too could see it if she really focused on it.
During the day, I mostly never notice it, although when I think about it, it can be hard to un-see it. I agree with your point that everyone has it to some degree.
As for floaters, I also have those too, and do not really notice them unless I'm looking at the sky or something white. Those I didn't develop until my adolescent years and I don't think those have anything to do with drugs, as I know lots of people who have them and have asked my Dr. about them. It's basically just cells from your eye that stick in such a way that you can see them.

My eyes have many "floaters" too. Weird transparent dots that move around. Such is life...

I have been on and off the drug bupropion for various reasons, I have noticed while on this drug, after a month or so I develop alot of visual static, even visible in a dark room. After I trip while on this drug, it also seems to carry on slight effects of breathing things (barely noticeable) it ends in a day or two after.

I've taken that drug as prescription a couple of times (periods) also... I didn't notice that.
These things effect so many people in so many different ways.

It only happens to me when I don't allow myself to ever actually come off the effects of the drug for several days. This makes me wonder if maybe other cases of visual snow might be related to dopamine levels? I am just speculating, it seems to me there could be many different reasons behind why people have this visual snow. It is a interesting subject to me, as it seems to be somewhat linked to migraines, both are things no one can find a definitive cause for.

I saw a documentary once on chinese guys cutting scalp veins to eliminate migraines, with amazing results.
But I'm with you on the dopamine levels... interesting.

Really cool OP. I've experienced visual snow 24/7 since my earliest memories. Light room, dark room, ever-present. The links at the bottom of the article attempting to portray it are rudimentary compared to what I experience, but it's sort of close to what's happening in my visual field with all emotions at baseline. The graininess is much, much finer.
