People who have offsite pictures in thier signature, and/or posts can get your ip if you are not using a proxy. The shroomery does not log ip's, but people can link to images hosted elsewhere, where they may be logging ip's. It would be pretty difficult to determine who's ip is whos, as usernames would not be a real factor.
Just a warning, be safe, surf safely.

Some programs add information about the origin of pictures as well.

How much does using a proxy slow down browsing (on average)?

Half the pace at least.
Post from a PC where you're not growing is the answer.

yeah proxy browsing sucks unless you can maybe find an ISP proxy that is close to you, but not yours. They are generally fast, but most are used to filter bad content, so the shroomery may be blocked. I dont use a proxy for normal browsing because its too slow, but i just click the box when i go to the shroomery

Use proxies at every step. Unless your on a modem, a fast proxy wont slow you down. Make sure there not including in the header the IP from which it is being forwarded, which some proxies might.
Always change your proxies every day or two days. (yes im paranoid) If your on IRC always try to ssh somewhere and connect or to use a bouncer or proxy.
Currently I'm writing a proxy tester/scanner plugin for mozilla (long way from being done) that will scan for speed, transparency, level of anonyminity, etc. and will update preferences accoding to some rule (change every two days, when proxy becomes to slow, etc.)
wish me luck!!
