inoculating without syringe

If someone is ordering spore PRINTS from overseas.. After a jar is steralised, is it possible to just scrape some of the spores ontop of the cake and then put the 1/2" layer of dry Verm on top of that? Or is it completely necessary to use a syringe to inoculate? If so, where do you purchase syringes that hold 10cc's ? Thanks

i believe the spores need to be rehydrated. You can buy syringes from a number of the sites on the shroomery vendor page.

I cant buy/order syringes online as I am from Australia and syringes dont make it through customs (only prints) So I have to make my own spore syringe (which sucks as i am a newbie and that will probably be the hardest bit, sterility wise) Does anybody know where in Australia I can purchase 10cc Syringes "with a long needle" ? Thanks

You could use a sterile eye dropper, but the risk of contams will be a lot higher as you would have to open the cake to air. If you really can't get hold of an empty syringe try looking at inkjet refill kits. They have a syringe (blunted needle, but that does not matter).

I know where to buy 5ml syringes but then i wouldnt know how much spore solution to inject into the jar. Can you put too much? As long as I dont change the water percentage (greatly) it should be ok if i just squirt a few drops into each hole?

If you can see a few dark flecks in the syringe (thouse are massive clumps of spores.. thoowwsands ov 'em), the rest of the solution will have millions of tiny spores you can't see. 1/4 ml is what I used per hole. Its does pay to draw some air through a flame into the syringe so you can shake the spores and even things out. From a dark 1" print I make about 20 syringes.

i have tried this scraping method.. it works, but the jars take forever to fully colonize.. i did this to 6 jars, i lost 3 to contams, and the rest took 2 months to complete. when you just scrape the spores over the top, it takes a long time for the mycelium to get all the way to the bottom.. if you do use this methid, i would strongly suggest a layer of verm on the bottom of the jar.

a hole print should make about four good syringes. check some of the faqs out for making syringes. i could tell you but you would fuck it up then so read the faqs.

Look in a grocery store for "flavor injectors" i.e. a syringe.
