It brings people who are worlds apart together in an antisocial way. It pushes away people who are close by , and keeps them at arms length. Kind of funny, eh?
In general technology is destroying people's social skills, teaching people to rely on virtual communications as opposed to face to face interaction!

I'll have to disagree with you, here. The Internet as a whole is incredible. Bringing people worlds apart together and facilitating the spread of information.
I feel like what you're addressing in your post is mostly prevalent in the West and among younger demographics.
I may have gone a bit far saying the internet as a whole. I do agree the internet is a wealth of valuable information. But what I do not agree on is how valuable social media. Kids and their mothers alike sit on their ass and watch the world go by just because of the rush they get that after the 15th click of the refresh button someone they don't like makes a superficial "status" or how much stuff they can do on farmville. People are disillusioned into thinking that they can have fun and communicate with people via the computer more passionately then face to face interaction and living. All I believe social media has done is make a public access into someones mind and the owner of their account has their whole world revolve around it in a sense where they are the account and the account is them. No matter the age group, I believe it vary's person to person but it has no age distinction because I see it in almost anyone that has a social media account.

Technology isn't 'doing' anything. If you claim it's affecting you negatively, your blame is misplaced. Something within your life was already off-center; it's just being expressed in the ways that you choose to use the objects around you. Get to the root of that issue and you'll no longer blame personal short-comings on the external.
*I'm not referring to you personally, by the way, Dosile. You in this context = people, generally.

Thank you so much for clearing that up. I appreciate it.
You bring up valid points, DoobieDude, but what if the problem lies with the people themselves and not social media? Like some sort of human 'flaw', if you will? Self-centeredness/self-interest is pretty natural. As is seeking out things that make our lives easier, communication included. People may just not be aware of the impulses at work within them. Within all of us, really. That, coupled with a culture that praises individualism (to an extent) and self-indulgence, are my only explanations for why it would be as widespread as you say.

I don't particularly care if FB has my data. After all, I put it there.

I think yes human need for attention and praise plays a role in it but I've seen people who are in different to attention even becoming like the people I stated. It's like heroin in my opinion it is the persons fault for becoming addicted but when you are messing with something so addictive it's not entirely the persons fault kind of like a middle ground type thing. A member recent posted a video about how clicking things on the internet can release dopamine.

i use it, mainly because everyone I know does too. It makes it easier keeping in touch with them... and my family... and all my old friends... and organizing events and collaborating for our local German car crew. In fact it's the only way I talk to my family pretty much. Prefer to keep it that way for now. I fucking hate talking on the phone. I don't really care that much about it though, I'm not obsessed like some people. Thought about deleting it multiple times.. but why? That would just make it harder on myself. Like I said.. everyone I know uses it. Old friends I haven't seen in years find me sometimes through there that probably wouldn't have otherwise. It's probably the main way I talk to most of my friends.. and my woman.
It's a very useful communication and networking medium, sorta like this website here. Anything can be used to excess... just don't be stupid.
