or, the force that organizes atoms of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, etc., into complex ecologies and self-conscious beings.

I think the white light is just a symbol of the all-encompassing nature of God. Since sight is the sense we use most, it would be logical to use light as a symbol. The cause of our world, light.

I'm not saying I believe in all that, I suppose I just believe in Brahman and Atman, no more.

Plato never says what is God. He says that the form of the good, which I believe you are refering to, is the only true nature or essence of everything, and that only a philosopher king knows that true form, everybody else has an opinion or they ignorant.

If you're refering to the myth of the metals that is something Plato wants to make up so that the people have a new comprehension of the nature of the universe, a better comprehension he believed.

I believe by that part of The Republic it was Plato's ideas. Socrates believed he was a mystic, he claimed he heard voices, and he believed that Mother Earth is very important and that we should harmonize with nature.

To me God being a white light is like describing that you cant hide in the shadows. All evil hides in the shadows lying in wait. So if you surround your self in Gods love and give your self to God. Then evil has know way of grasping on to you, well unless you let it. But then you are not in gods light and then you are on that evil side.
