I've got a Fuji FinePix S602 Zoom. I bought it for about $500, but I think they're going for about $450 now. I bought the camera because I'm big into photography. It has all the bells and wistles I was looking for, and it was afforable. It's got a lot of feature most of the "average" photographers would never take advantage of... heck most of the time I don't even use them
As far as picture quality goes... It's not producing the pictures a $5,000 Digital SLR would, but it can take some amazing pictures.
Here are some example shots taken with my S602 Z:
Wow.... that ambien kicked in hardcore about halfway though the post. Sorry if there were too many pictures, I couldn't resist. I'm goona go figure out how to get into my lofted bed. THis could be complicated.

This doesnt really do her justice but it is a cool pic I had handy.
Minolta DiMage 7i, not 7 or 7hi. Most people dont know there are all 3 models with different levels of options. And prices. They are getting cheaper, around $500 dollars for the 7i.
It kicks ass.
If you like to take pictures I highly recommend getting a big fat memory card. I use only CF and MS. Everything else sucks in my opinion. And when I say big, I mean big. I use a 1gb card. I got it so cheap! $150. They are not that cheap anywhere right now, I just got lucky. But I can take pics all day and not have a care in the world. Pics like the one above, I can get about 1200, yes 1200 on one card. It will change the way you take your pics. I go out and take 400-500 pics almost everytime I take my cam out of the house. Most of them I ditch but it is not as hard as one might think tho go through them all.
And get a card reader, it is so much easier.

Couldn't agree more with the CF and MS cards. A 512MB+ card is a must if you're taking high resolution pictures. I use a 1GB microdrive... Have to have that. When I'm taking 6MP(2832x2128) uncompressed pictures(tiff files) each picture ends up being about 18MB.

I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-F717. They are priced around $700 now I believe. I love it. I like the manual focus a lot, and it has a lot of SLR features.
Here are some pictures.

Hi well i had 2 digital cameras. the first one I sold to Shroom Amigo in Romania. IT was a Pentax 2 Mega pixel camera. Here are some images of less than one inch size Ban Hua Thanons in vitro images I took with the Pentax. I liked it alot and had very few bad images with it. I have a 256 memory car adn I like that alot, also a 64, a 31 and a 6 MB card. I have only used the 256 card and keep the 128 card in my camera case in case I run out of images.
Here are the images taken with the Pentax Camera and the C amera used to take these images:
The front:
The back: The screen opens so you can take self portraits: aAnd it is very simple to operate and 99% of my images were great.
and
Then I went and bought a 4 megapixel Nikon Cool Pix 4300, it has 12 photo modes and even makes a 40 second movie. Here are some images witht he Nikon 4megapixel camera. I thave so far since July 15th when I bought it taken 4800 photographs of which about three thousand of the are okay.
Here is a picture of the camera with 12 scene modes on it and a 40 second movie option, comes with permanent recharger good inall outlets in every part of the world.
Here are some Ban Nathon images in vito images fromt he new camera:
And here is a cropped image from my Ecuadorians grown at Chulalongkorn U in bangkok this summer
And a cropped field shroom from Koh Samui in Na Muang rice paddies.
And a few unseen before Lepiotas
While this camera is cool and can take images of insects, animals, fish and other secenery images, I really enjoyed the liberty cap images recently posted by PilzePilze. Now those were excellent images although i cannot off-hand recall what type of camera he used.

Hi Angry Shroom, my friend who wrote How to identify and grow psilocybin Mushrooms also has that same Sony and his pictures are unbelievable. Really fine quality but as you sai, expensive.
My cool pix 4300 Nikon cost me $500.00 plus $75.00 for the compact card flash hold and than the two rechargable batteries were over $100.00, plus a few regula disposl bateries, and then the memory cards. I gues with all I spent I should have got a Sony like yours and Rich Gee's.
have a shroomy day,

Just something you might want to note: a lot of cameras take some awesome macro pictures, but when you want to take a normal picture with and infinte focus range, the pictures come out looking... kinda flat. I'd read a bunch of review on the camera you're considering buying before you do so. I found out all the problems with my camera and decided that I could live with them, then I bought it.

And the Nikon 4300 although is a good camera, I have problems indoors taking pictures of paints on walls and such although there are modes for such pictures. everytime you wait longer than 20 seconds on that nikomn the camera goes off and so does the mode and/or settings if in auto so you have to reset everything before you snap a shot.
However I have taken soem really beautiful scenic and temple shots with mine because of the settings. But as I mentioned above, I lost a good 1000 or so photos to blurring.
