Stropharia aeruginosa
    #2032291 - 10/22/03 02:08 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

In my foolish younger days I came upon a bunch of these (at least, looking back I assume they were these - they had pink gills and were very slimy) and ended up munching a couple. The reason for this was that in some obscure book on psychoactive species in the UK, these were listed as having possible activity. No activity was detected in that particular bioassy, but I was wondering is there any validity to the activity claim, and would something have been noticed with higher dosages?

yep, IIRC they taste damn good, quite hot and peppery i think - they'd be great with salad.

That looks like one. Make a spore print. It should come out purplish brown.

Happy mushrooming!

Yup unfortunately not active...they are a very pretty shroom to look at...was even thinking of transplanting a few to a small mulched area in front of my house...just as a decorative shroom. Here are some pics from a couple of years ago.

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

I found a cluster of them today as well here in Seattle They are truly a nice color to look at since a green mushroom is so rare. Everywhere where I have read they are not active.
