what u get is an ips panel (much more vivid, more color accuracy, better view angles) - more pixels per inch 1920x1200p @ 24" = way more pixels per inch than 1920x1080p @ 27" (you wont notice it watching a FMV at a B&M store, but you will notice it looking at game UIs/reading text), you get a heavy duty stand that won't wobble and has easy to use tilt, swivel, rotate... amazing stand....
cons i guess... more hardcore twitch gamers seem to prefer the duller looking TN panels w/ lower input lag and faster refresh rates....
like this display is kindah cool, the asus vg248qe
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313
24" 1080p TN panel w/ 1ms response time and 144hz refresh rate... apparently for $200 u can buy an nvidia gsync DIY kit for it, which seems pretty rad.... is only $279.99... not my personal choice, but i see the appeal

I'd go with a faster response time monitor personally. With the newer tech for gaming, I'd generally go with a 3ms or lower monitor, but that's just me. IIRC anything under 12ms should be acceptable for gaming without too much ghosting. 8ms is a little high for me personally though.

i have the 27" 1440p dell U2713H w/ 6ms response time, i notice no ghosting, but do notice screen tear on games that exceed 60fps w/o vsync enabled... diablo 3 is the most ridiculous game under the sun to play w/o vsync...... that 144hz monitor would go a long way i think to play games w/o vsync, and the DIY Nvidia G-Sync kit for the monitor i linked could only help that much more
the higher refresh rate has the greater appeal for me w/ gaming monitors, but since gaming is only a fraction of what i do w/ my display I still prefer the IPS displays greatly

Yeah I can totally understand that, if you are working with graphics / photoshop a lot or whatever, the IPS display is the shit. That G-Sync kit would probably help a lot as well for sure.

Ended up getting this monitor, only realized after that it's the one Cosmic suggested
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got it with free shipping because I signed up for amazon prime, going to cancel prime after I get it so it won't cost the extra 60$ a year or something (get one month free prime).
Going to cost me $322.24
Cheaper on new egg but they are out of stock

Nvidia makes a G-Sync DIY kit, only specifically for that monitor, but the install process may be a bit hardcore for some and the kit is $200....
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/diyhttp://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/diy
All the same, I'd have to have one if I owned that monitor, makes the monitor's refresh rate match the FPS you're getting in a game on the fly, effectively solving the age old screen tear/stutter dilemma as I understand it.

That's what it's supposed to do, aye. I've never actually seen it in action in person though, but very interesting.

I read some good articles about the G-sync stuff a while back. PC Gamer or kotaku or toms hardware, now I can't remember. Will be some neato keen shizzle when it starts making it into our every day hardware with no mod kits needed and no 200$ additional jump in price.
Nvidia just unveiled 6 of them at Computex at the start of June. Hopefully many more will follow.

All what RAM? The System RAM or VRAM? VRAM for high demanding games at higher resolutions, (new monitor tech), or multi monitor gaming.. and future-proofing. System RAM is just useful all around, especially for multi-tasking.

Wtih the rate of advancement the problem is it wont set you straight for that long. It will be 'great' for the next 2 years, then just average for the 2 afer, then downhill years 5 to 6, and near useless by the 7th and 8th year. And I'm not even talking about the gaming portion of it.
Currently ultra cheap bare bones budget setups you would get from walmart of best buy just to check email and browse the web come with 2 to 4g of ram and still seem to run like ass. A lower end average machine will sell with 8. A 'nicer' to 'great' system will be in the 16G area and the power user/overkill setups are going to be 32G+. No system purchased in those bottom few steps will last 8 years and be usable.
As for video ram, me, personally, I tend not to overkill on it because traditionally its main purpose is high resolution capability and big multimonitor setups which I have never used in a home setting yet. By the time 4k gaming really takes off I still probably wont move to a 4k setup for a few eyars after that, so I usually stick with the normal ram options for my video card, and pump money into make sure its as high end of a card as I can get. But I would much rather a 780 with 2GB then a 770 with 4GB. But thats me. shroomism will argue against it until we both turn blue in the face and papa smurf rapes us to death.

Although..... within the next year or so, more and more high end games will be coming out, and 2GB of VRAM on a card probably won't cut the mustard for a lot of the latest games, if you want to play at high settings with decent FPS. 3-4GB should be more than sufficient for quite a while, I imagine... if you aren't pushing the envelope with 4K monitors and shit.
Shit currently even in Skyrim with a bunch of texture mods, I can hit 2.5GB VRAM easy, and that's at 1080p. Although that's the exception, rather than the rule right now. Currently it's really only the most high end, demanding games that will eat up that much VRAM. I mostly just recommend extra VRAM for "future-proofing", so you don't have to worry about it a year or two from now.
But yeah I totally agree with your RAM statement.. the way technology progresses... 2GB a few years ago was "enough". Now that's not even close, 4GB is the absolute bare minimum for a Win7 machine but will still kinda suck. 8GB is enough for most people for now. 16GB is better if you like to do lots of multitasking and shit like that.
But yeah, no PC lasts 5-8 years without becoming almost completely obsolete, the way tech progresses. Who knows, 2 years from now we'll be talking about how 32GB is child's play and "power users" are running like 96GB. Some (crazy) people run that now. If you aren't running a server or do crazy AutoCAD work or super 3D editing or whatever it's beyond overkill.

Quick question guys, my cpu came with a heatsink. I have that corsair water cooler though.... Can I attach both? Heatsink on the front covering the cpu, water cooler on the back of the motherboard....
Still waiting on one component, picking it up tomorrow from the post office. Might not have time to put together everything this weekend but may have time on sunday, I'll see I guess.
Pretty excited tho all this stuff looks dope, can't wait to get started.

Holy shit, no.... that's such a crazy question am a little concerned for ya (maybe have a geek friend over when ya build). You won't be using the hsf that came w/ the CPU at all, keep it as a backup/if you ever sell the processor. There are more in depth guides for installing the Corsair H100i. Here's a nice pictorial one.

LOL I haven't opened anything yet, or read much other then watching a few videos on putting a computer together so far. I'm not ready to start yet, and I wouldn't start until I felt I were ready to begin.
I was confused because of two videos I watched, one of them looked like he did both. To be honest I haven't read up on what the hsf does or even was. When I seen it today I was like
the fuck is that?
