yeah same hum, but somehow it sounds like shit when I record it. maybe i should mess around with mic placement.

mic placement is important.
i read that Jimmy Page had constantly tried different things with mic placement and stuff for recording, so im assuming (especially considering there are professionals who do just this very thing for a living) that it is pretty important.

Right now I have it right up against the grille of the amp. Maybe I'll move it back a few feet. Sounds totally 'amateur' and the equipment SHOULD theoretically sound a bit better.

Yeah I'd say if it's coming out regardless, then the recording is just going to exacerbate it. Definitely mess with mic placement, make sure you levels aren't peaking and all the basic stuff, I'm sure you know all this figured I'd throw it out there.
If you have to, ease up on the gain from the amp. Do you have plugins or anything on the computer? Maybe try to use a preset from a plugin rather than the gain from the amp, it may help.
I'm no pro at the production/recording end, I do a lot of studio stuff on bass, but my friend is good with production. I learn shit from him but I'm definitely inexperienced with that stuff.

Forgot to mention this. I can't tell you how many different ways I've placed my mic by the amp. Sometimes I hang it upside down or record it laying it horizontal. Lately I've been using the natural reverb of my bathroom and stairwell, gives a nice shine to my acoustic.

yeah, see that is what i am saying. gotta try all sorts of shit, cause anything literally will make a difference.
who knows how When The Levee Breaks drums were recorded, cause my cause would be that a mic was put inside of the kick drum to accentuate it.
another example... Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles) was recorded with Lennon and Paul singing into the mic elevated over the drums, all at once, being done together. one reason why that song, apart from the rest of the album, sounds so noisy. that and the weird analog synth noises.

The percussion for When The Levee Breaks was recorded by setting up the drum kit at the bottom of a flight of stairs and the recording equipment at the top of the rectangular tower in which the stairs zigzagged upwards. It was basically recorded inside a tower

ohh! glad you brought that up Akira! The engineer on that track had John Lennon sing through a modified leslie speaker. But that's not even the half of it. So many lil things went into recording that track. I love tomorrow never knows and its drone.

Mmm ha yeah, and a magical place, I'm sure. This thread has me listening to Sgt. Pepper's all over again, ohhh how I wish I could've seen 1967... who knows... maybe I did
