What's the difference? You're a stupid know it all with a vagina.

Please do not use "neanderthal" as an insult. It is not much different than calling someone a monkeyfaced nigger.

You know a few neanderthal fossils that might be offended then?

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Is it okay to say nigger as long as you make it clear that you are referring to dead niggers.

Id say it was pretty applicable.

What was applicable to what?

How much do you know about neanderthals to be able to compare them to anyone or anything. Fossil evidence shows that they cared for their sick and injured, were capable of compassion, and mourned the loss of another neanderthal's life.

Are these the characteristics you are suggesting that people have when you call them neanderthals?

They are waiting 2 weeks for eye surgery and 6 week for back and extremities surgery. Sux for them because now they see the USA could really care less for them. The truth hurts, I feel very sorrow for all these individual.

You'll never see me in the US military the only war I'll ever fight in you won't need weapons but words!

Maybe because it was a figure of speech? It's likely that Neanderthals weren't even the same species as us and they've been extinct for thousands of years. It's not like the word is being used to describe a particular physical (homo sapien) trait like Nigger is. It's generally used to liken someone's thinking to that of a primative caveman. A bit like when you used the term 'sexist sow' really.

santashroom writes:

I just re-read that entire article carefully and slowly three times, and I saw no mention of eye surgery or back surgery. Were you thinking of a different article with more detail describing the same situation, perhaps? You wouldn't happen to have a link handy, would you?

Sux for them because now they see the USA could really care less for them.

I dunno if it's right to go that far. Seems like just another example of government bureaucratic procedures being unable to deal with a situation outside the norm.

The main thrust of the article seems to be that there aren't enough doctors available to handle the situation. As I pointed out, this is what happens when government controls health care -- there is never enough to go around. Now, if the Army would go outside the system and send some of those troops to private doctors, the problem would be resolved quickly. This is exactly what many Canadians do -- they travel to other countries (usually the US) and pay for better and faster treatment outside the system and then just bitch and moan about the taxes they are wasting on "free" health "care" in Canada.

I have been accused of "grossly" exaggerating. After re-reading the article several times, I find that I have actually exaggerated almost nothing at all. The only significant difference between the soldiers' conditions and that of a Canadian with an undiagnosed pain in the abdomen or a chronic back problem is that the soldiers live in barracks while waiting for treatment, and we Canadians live in our igloos while we wait. And, as the article says -- "They said the conditions are fine for training, but not for sick people."

Let's look at a few more quotes:

"Some of the soldiers said they have waited six hours a day for an appointment without seeing a doctor."

An almost universal experience for Canadians. If you are not actively gushing blood in the waiting room, or exhibiting a broken bone sticking out through your skin, or having a seizure or something equally dramatic, you can wait a lot longer than that. It is not uncommon for a Canadian to have to wait weeks to get an appointment to see his own general practitioner who has been seeing him for decades.

"Others described waiting weeks or months without getting a diagnosis or proper treatment."

Canadians routinely wait weeks for an appointment with their general practitioner, and months to get an appointment with a specialist -- then weeks or months more for access to common diagnostic tools (more accurately, common in the US. In Canada they are anything but common), then weeks more for the test results and an eventual diagnosis. Then, depending on the recommended course of treatment (in other words, anything other than medication), they wait weeks or months more before finally being treated.

I am not making this up. This is easily verifiable from impeccably reliable sources. Some Canadians try for literally years to sign up with a general practitioner -- it is a very real concern for people getting transferred from one city to another. There just aren't enough to go around, and if you are very lucky -- or have a particularly interesting ailment -- when you finally do get an appointment, the doctor has maybe an entire eight minutes to deal with you before he must move on to the next patient. Again, I am not making this up -- all of this is fact that is easily verifiable.

"Since getting back from Iraq in May, Buckels, 52, has been trying to get doctors to find out why he has intense pain in the side of his abdomen since doubling over in pain there.
After waiting since May for a diagnosis, Buckels has accepted 20 percent of his benefits for bad knees and is going home to his family in Mississippi. "They have not found out what my side is doing yet, but they are still trying," Buckels said."

So they haven't figured out what is causing the pain in his side yet, even though they have been trying (and are still trying) since May? I feel sorry for the guy -- I mean that sincerely. Unfortunately, not every medical condition can be diagnosed instantly, and sometimes not ever.

I suffered from Horton's syndrome for several years before I was properly diagnosed, and it took another two years to find a medication that had any effect on the pain. My first neurologist thought it might be a brain tumor, so he ordered a CAT scan. It took three and a half weeks to get time on a scanner. Fortunately, the scan showed no sign of tumor, but he wanted an MRI done as well, since it is a MUCH more sensitive test than the CAT scan. The lineup for the MRI was months long, so I told him to forget it. If it really had been a tumor, I could have died before the MRI discovered it.

""There are not enough doctors. They are overcrowded and they can't perform the surgeries that have to be done," that soldier said. "Look at these mattresses. It hurts just to sit on them," he said, gesturing to the bunks. "There are people here who got back in April but did not get their surgeries until July. It is putting a lot on these families."

Again, he might as well be talking about Canada. There are not enough doctors. The hospitals are overcrowded and there are waiting lists for surgical procedures that in some cases are literally years long. As for mattresses, several hospitals in Canada have gurneys parked in the hallways that are always full. They have been there so long they are now permanent fixtures and have been marked "1A", "33G" etc. and are treated exactly as regular hospital beds in wards.

I repeat, I am not making this up. It is all verifiable fact.

"The active duty guys that are coming in, they get treated first and they put us on hold," said another soldier who returned from Iraq six weeks ago with a serious back injury. He has gotten to see a doctor only two times since he got back, he said."

If that guy got to see a doctor twice in six weeks for a back injury, then he is statistically way ahead of the curve for Canadians with back injuries.

Now -- is the situation with those reservists in Georgia a disgrace? Of course! It's outrageous. All I point out is that the situation in Canada is worse, yet Canadians have come to accept it as the norm. It is, after all, "free". And no one, no matter how rich they might be, gets treated any better than anyone else -- we all wait for months.

Such is the reality of the socialized medical system so trumpeted as "the best in the world" by those who know nothing about it.

And it's coming your way sooner than you think.

pinky
