3 weeks and still not full colonized
    #2028134 - 10/21/03 08:34 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

ok, i inoculated 12 presterilized jars on october 1st, i used 10 cc's of solution for 12 jars. the jars are in a cardboard box with a heat lamp pointed at the side, maintaining a constant heat of about 84 degrees inside the box. The thing im wondering is, it has been 3 weeks, one of my jars is about 90% colonized, the rest are around 30%. In all but 3 of the jars, the myclium is not very dense at all almost wispy, like it hasnt filled in enough where it is. Did i use too little spore solution? The growth hasnt stalled at any point...its just not going fast. Also the jars look overly dry, but i ordered them 'presterilized with the correct moisture content'. I have filter disks on all the jars with holes poked in the top of the lids to allow air exchange. the humidity in my room is around 40%. I was hoping to have already cased these guys, but its looking like i will have to wait a week or two more to have them finish colonizing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

you should probably take that up with the vendor if you think it's moisture content issues. If not that, you may have contam probs. Be patient though it may not be contams. Jars can sometimes take awhile. Just beeeeeeeeeeeee patient.

yea I innoculated mine on 10/1 but most of mine are done =\. But I do have a few that aren't finishing very fast, and 1 that I don't think will ever finish, because I tried to flip it over, and it wouldn't move, i think I packed that one a bit too tightly. So my guesses as to why yours aren't going to fast, are either moisture content problem, or the substrate is too dense in the jars

Air is a good idea, make sure that when you load your jars, you "fluff" the mixture that you are forking in there, put a forkload in , and don't compact. Also, PF tek fo' simple minds gets perfect ratios every time.
