Coir Casing Question

Okay, I'm just wondering what is the exact procedure on this TEK...
What goes on the bottom, just verm, just coir, or the mix of both.
And what goes on the top just coir????
A little clarification would help.

Most people use coir + vermiculite on top and a really thin layer of partially-damp vermiculite on the bottom. It's in the FAQ.

And one more question... Could I apply this to the SoS TEK as well.... Meaning that instead of using the Jiffy Mix as stated, I use coir?

just a thought.....a casing on the bottom hides contams.
I would just crumble and case.....up to you.

Raplhster could you please elaborate....
You mean don't put anything on the bottom. Just crumble and case and then just put the coir on the top??? The coir that is to go on the top, would that have verm in there?

The problem with that TEK is that it doesnt tell you how much to put on the bottom or what to do with it after you combined all the parts. I know how to combine I just don't know how much to use on the bottom and top, and what to use on the bottom and top.

couple of schools of thought on this.... The added moisture to the bottom is good.....but.... as I said...it can hide contams.
A good misting of the casing seems to be better for "those guys" If your getting into good growth...size of the substrate layer matters as well.
I think anno and others have documented this fully in the tek recources.
I have heard that a substantial substrate layer achieves it full potential. I would say just case your substrate. When you see pinning...do not mist it anymore. Mist the sides of your container. Keep your humidity up.
Remember, pinning occurs when a change has taken hold of the mushroom mycellia. The mushrooms want to reproduce.
Verm is good my man....holds moisture better than coir. You can see the coir drying out by its color.
They gotta have water:) shrooms are 90% water.
Lets know how you did...practice makes perfect:)
