    #2026803 - 10/20/03 08:17 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I found these growing out of a log in the forest PNW.
gills are real meaty, creamy brown color. attached to stem
stem was same color as gills. not hollow.
caps were about 1/4 to 1 inch. olive green, to browinish color.
spore print was dark brown almost black, more black that brown.
these are real stinkers. real strong odor.
any help would be apriciated. thanks.

Can you describe the odor?
Is the surface of the cap covered with fibers or hairs?

Your overall description seems to suggest an Inocybe. As a genus, Inocybes are very poisonous, and should never be eaten. Most of them grow on the ground, but there are Inocybes that are found on wood.

Happy mushrooming!

the odor is kinda fishy smelling.
no hairs on the cap. the mushrooms were delicate, mabey because of all
the rain.

Those seem similar to Inocybe calamistrata. Unfortunately, accurate identification of Inocybes requires the use of a microscope.

Happy mushrooming!
