Who wants to experiment w/Tryptamine?

It's bothersome that there are so many posts on the subject but so little data.  I think it was Gartz et al. that first did the experiment (I have it at home, but not here.)  I haven't seen it replicated, though.

I couldn't find any readily available source for tryptamine, anywhere, but it looks really easy to synthesize (thanks to elemicin for the idea.)  I'd like to know who else would be willing to replicate the experiment.  If I run a batch of tryptamine it should be waaaayyy more than I need, so I might be willing to mail it to some people here (with a reputable posting history, USA ONLY.)  I don't think it's illegal.  I have a shitload of all the chemicals needed, anyway.  If you want to be a part, PM me, please don't make unnecessary replies to this thread.  Also, if you are new here, or haven't posted a lot of messages, please don't bother PM'ing me -- no offense;  I'm doing this for security reasons.

The only thing is we'd have to come up with a standard protocol (all using the same substrate, etc.) and most of the testing will be subjective.  This will make it hard to control, but if there are several people doing it who trip pretty often, so we can have somewhat of a basis of comparison, then I'd consider it a pretty good experiment.

Just an idea; I'd love to contribute here if I can :wink:

I am willing to help with the experiment. I am sure someone has access to a chromatograph for quantification of the end results.

I just filed through a shitload of controlled drugs and precursors and I didn't see tryptamine HCl anywhere. Strange I thought it was listed or at least watched. Maybe I missed it but I don't think so. But still.... :wink:

Cool; I'm glad people are interested! If you buy it online it'll probably be a lot more pure, but I couldn't find it. People like Sigma and Alfa usually require a business credit card, so I tried searching for obscure companies that might have it, but didn't find anything.

There's one problem, though -- I'm going to be using Zinc Acetate as a catalyst and I don't know if zinc residues will form, and if some of these will be extracted. There might be a way to chelate the zinc using EDTA, but the site doesn't post the whole reaction scheme, so I'll have to post something to the hive. Zinc can be poisonous to some mycelium at certain doses, but the amount of residue that will form might be negligable, especially with the extraction and the very low molarity of tryptamine. I'll keep an update....

*hints* as some more free tryptamine in the future ....
if you are concerned about your tryptamine purity you can do a distillation of the freebase and then salt it with the hcl and follow it up by crystallizing it in anhydrous rubbing alcohol.

You should end up with a fairly pure product there will be a write up once the pet giraffe has done the synth.  (using the DMSO + MEK way)

btw if u cant get zinc acetate get technical grade zinc powder
then react it with Glacial Acetic Acid (sold at photosupply stores) to  yield the Zinc Acetate and some H2 gas.

According to Rhodium a disodium EDTA wash of the freebase should get rid of any leftover zinc. It's in the tryptamine chemistry section of the hive if you're interested:

Also, seems like somebody in a country with legal and ready access to professional labs that can quantitatively and qualititatively analize the fruits would be good. Seems like a lot of effort put towards scientifically repeating an experiment, then you go and blow it by only using bio-assays to judge the effect.

Not that I wouldn't be intereseted in hearing the bio-assay, but I would be much more interested in seeing actual numbers.

Perhaps anno might be interested, he's getting those substrate comparison fruits tested?
