Hey guys, I'm rather new to this website, and a friend of mine taught me how to grow Mushrooms. I've just harvested my first flush, and have no idea which is the best way to dry the mushrooms. I don't have a dessicator and every other method to dry/store them has many different results and responses. Just looking for a quick response on how to dry/store them the efficiently

There are a couple ways:
1) you can use a regular fan, and lay your fresh on a plate in front of it, as long as needed until cracker dry 2) or you can use a food dehydrator (this is effective with much larger quantities)
imo just place them in front of a fan and run it until they are cracker dry
Once they are cracker dry, I like to keep them in quart mason jars with a plastic bag of silica gel desiccant.

Dry them on a plate (or equivalent) in front of a fan set to medium (or high if you want, probably doesn't matter) and leave them there until they're pretty fucking dry. (24 - 72 hours)
This will get most of them 90% dry
Some may get cracker dry from this alone.
Regardless, create a desiccant chamber using damp-rid and some window screen inside a tupperware. Search for 'desiccant chamber' to get the idea.
Once 100% (cracker) dry you can transfer all mushrooms to a mason jar. Adding a desiccant pack to the jar helps keep moisture out but honestly I've never bothered and recently had a friend told me he ate my 10 month old shrooms that had been sitting in a mason jar with no desiccant packet.
He had to call me because he was freaking out. Potency loss won't be an issue if they are cracker dry inside a jar.

For long term I dry with a food dehydrator and store inside plastic baggies, ina air tight sealed mason jar. I put about 1 inch of desiccant beads at the bottom of the jar. The desiccant doesn't come into contact with the mushrooms. They will keep for a few years like this, but they don't last forever.
Food saver machines that suck out the air are out of bags are the best for long term storage.

Sanguin3 said: I'd buy a food dehydrator if you plan on continuing the hobby, its definitely worth it IMO. I got a cheap presto one at walmart for 35 bucks and it works great, completely dry in 4-8 hours depending on how full I load it.
Plus you can also make tasty snacks with it.
Does it matter which way the mushroom is dried? For example, are there debates that favor a desiccant over a food dehydrator?

What size desiccant pack do you use, and does it matter? Amazon sells different sized packs.

I work as a sushi chef so I use the desiccant packs that come with sushi-nori.
It probably doesn't matter. Do you have any old bottles of tylenol? You can probably use the desiccant that comes with that.

Oh god. Here we go again...
Yes. There are weekly arguments about the best way.
Some people say use low temp. Some people say use high temp. Some people say blah blah blah.... Just dry your fucking shrooms. I forbid you to turn this thread into a debate on drying. Use the search function from this point on. What your going to realize really quickly is that you're just going to have to try different shit for drying and decide for yourself what the best method is for your situation.
EDIT: Also, the universal conclusion to all of these debates is to 'go buy a dehydrator'
