Scientists have developed a material so dark that you can't see it.

Scientists have developed a material so dark that you can't see it.
A British company has produced a "strange, alien" material so black that it absorbs all but 0.035 per cent of visual light, setting a new world record. To stare at the "super black" coating made of carbon nanotubes – each 10,000 times thinner than a human hair – is an odd experience. It is so dark that the human eye cannot understand what it is seeing. Shapes and contours are lost, leaving nothing but an apparent abyss.

If it was used to make one of Chanel's little black dresses, the wearer's head and limbs might appear to float incorporeally around a dress-shaped hole.

Actual applications are more serious, enabling astronomical cameras, telescopes and infrared scanning systems to function more effectively. Then there are the military uses that the material's maker, Surrey NanoSystems, is not allowed to discuss.

zOMG wANT.  How awesome would it be just to have a small cube or some other shape of this just as a desk decoration or something.

But I really want a shirt made of it.

Yeah, I could definitely go for a shirt, or maybe some kind of hooded cloak...

Imagine a fabric made of this stuff that was then covered in silver glitter or something. You'd look like you'd wrapped yourself up in the night sky.

this is scary. not to be alarmist or anything. but imagine peeps in the thick of night with this shit. no one knows nothing! they can sneak in to wherever with no hassle at all, and like in the article... any security systems are not relatively harmless with this material because it would be undetectable.
