First outdoor PINS! WOOO!
    #20278182 - 07/15/14 06:55 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hey Crew! Whats happening!? Well after a couple days of rain I went and checked my outdoor patch and BAM! I have pins everywhere!! This was from my previous failed PE grow. I basically took the cakes crumbled them up and made layers of sub, manure, sub, manure and so on, topped it with some dead leaves. Anyways I go out today and notice the pins right? However I notice my biggest pin the middle of the cap is completely eaten out! Looks like someone took a drill bit to the cap n started to drill into it? Do you guys think this could be slugs? I will be out there daily now and much more vigilant! Should I remove the top layer of dead leaves to let the sun in now that I have pins? The spot gets about 3-4 hrs of direct sun in the morning from about 7am-11am? I am also concerned about the weather. We are being hit again with that polar vortex and night temps are around 50-55 :frown: Will this effect anything? Thanks alll!!!

I am in Ohio, damn near in PA. Basically on the boarder. I now fear the salt got too close to the grow area,  I hope I didnt mess anything up. I hear salt is bad for mycelium? I am so fucking excited! I tried to fruit these PE cakes for like 3 weeks with nothing but frustration. They took about 3 weeks to pin once outdoors and this time around I dont want to mess anything up lol! Damn I am skipping over here! I just went outside and checked and noticed a slug! SO I assume the salt is not working?  I feel like im now under attack lol! I cant monitor these girls at night when I sleep. I just hope whatever put a hole in the center of my cap will not return. Lets hope the salt keeps them at bay!

The hole is from slugs. Small bites when they are pins turn into huge holes the bigger the fruit gets

Holy shit! I went back just now with a flash light and took a couple more off the area! I wonder if  these slugs trip when they eat our pins haha? I am still worried about the salt being too close and killing the mycelium but we'll see how it goes! Should I remove the layer of leaves to expose more light to the pins? Alot of the pins are under the leaves.

awesome! Thanks man! Do you think I done any damage with the salt? I am worried some got too close to a few pins, also what if the slugs crawl over it and drag it into my grow? Damn I am soo excited man! I never been this pumped before! It makes me want to only grow outdoors now haha I never seen so many pins!

Bye slug and snail bait and use as directed. Supposedly this is the best thing to keep those bastards off your fruiting mushrooms. slugs will also go for cube mycellium like it is hot cakes for slugs.

Checked this morning and so far, so good! All the pins are fine except the shroom that was eaten, it is now rotting :frown: turning black, pisses me off bc its fucking BIG! About 2-3 inches tall, oh well, the others will catch on up!
