I bit the bullet and got a propane burner that was used for frying turkeys. The only drawback to this is soot. I would get about 20 runs on a rank of gas. Hope this helps.
If you're sick of soot, which is very bad for you health to be breathing in, then get the hotplate I linked to above. The thing is a beast. Well worth the cash. I had the same issue in the past with hot plates being insufficient, did some research, and found this guy.

Lol that hitch is $120 though. I could do Soooo much with that.
Although I see its 1500 watts. I may be able to find the same wattage a lot cheaper, thanks for the link.

If you can find the same wattage for cheaper, let me know. I'd be interested in it.

I just use a Black & Decker one from Wal-Mart..I think it was 20 bucks. Probably not the sturdiest or safest thing in the world to be putting a PC and 7 jars on, but it actually does the job. Put the weight on after about an hour then it takes maybe 30 minutes to get to pressure then 90 minutes from there. I've used it probably..12 times with success each time.
It does worry me though...I need to find a way to make the thing more stable.

Yeah dude it takes forever. It works though. I have a glass-top range, so I can't use that.

Yeah, because his hot plate is poop. My cadco has steam coming out of my filled 30 quart all american in about 10-15 minutes, and once I put the weight on it is to 15 psi in another 10-15 minutes.

This is why I buy expensive models, because you get what you pay for. The wattage doesn't matter if the unit is constructed like a piece of crap.
You have two issues with cheaper construction:
1) It melts due to the heat/weight of a large PC and sets your house on fire
2) If it is equipped with a safety mechanism, it turns off due to over heating and you can't get your PCer up to the needed PSI.

The actual sterilizer can also handle 20 PSI safely, which can cut down a little on your sterilization time.
this in the long run over time, in bulk amounts whether actives or edibles, this is really important

I can't find any reviews for it, but all the Nesco hot plates are crap in my experience. The wattage doesn't matter if it can't structurally handle the heat or weight of the pc without shutting off or being destroyed.

Cadco. They make amazing products. They're the AA of hot plates.

I dunno, at least at first glance it looks solid enough to hold my little 16qts. I have softened many a coil so I dig the flat top design.
Would I put an AA on it? Uh no.

How much of a reduction in run time are we talking? RR suggests 2 hours for woodchip/sawdust bags at 15psi, so only run it for 1.5hrs at 20psi?

Yeah... I need a hotplate too, My white stove is getting FUCKED from pc being on high until boiling. Started me wondering how everyone else does it without destroying their stovetops... Or at least how they clean it up. Might even end up repainting my oven occasionally with high temp paint lol. Yeah thanks for the link eagle!

I melted down a glass top with a canned pot once. Melted the coating right off and shattered the top. The wife was PISSSSSSSED OFF! Thats when I started using hot plates and propane burners.
