Mixing grain and sub

So whenever I make small trays or a mini mono I always end up with one piece that takes a while to colonize because I missed that part when mixing. What would be the downside of putting the sub and grains into a big salad bowl to mix and then pouring that into your bin?

I don't see any downside, I'd rinse the bowl with some dish soap but I think its fine!
I soak my grains for like ten minutes before I mix them into coir and its never caused any issues

Cool. Going to do that from now on. I made some test grain jars to test an lc and used this method small scale by putting them into plastic cups in ziplock bags. The tiny test ones are colonizing faster at a ratio of 1:2 than the 1:1 trays I have.
Side note: I'm surprised how resistant coir is. Messed up the pasteurization big time by partially sterilizing it and still no contams.

i completly sterilize mine with no contams, in fact it sits for ever in my reptile tank and doesn't contam until poo has sat and aged long enough to contam itself

I bucket pasteurise most of my substrate. Once it cools I just dump my spawn into the bucket and mix it before putting it into tubs.

That's a good idea. I've just seen so many failed attempts using the bucket tek that I figured proper sterilization was a necessity. Do you think it's mainly bad spawn that causes contams in coir?

The tub in my signature was made with Damion's bucket tek.

Buckets work great I even use them with additives like coffee, manure and worm castings. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19907089
