Boiling plastic jar lids?

RR said boiling contamed jars for 30 mins will kill contams. So can I do this with the plastic lids or will they get ruined? It isn't that big of deal because they are 3 bucks for 8 of them but still if they do deform they are going to be releasing those contams all over my house. Can't find anything on the search bar. Many people here use those plastics lids so someone outta know.
Thanks.

Thanks again cronicr. Much appreciated.
Wish I would have made more agar jars. I figured 8 would last a while. Apparently not.

Your plastics will boil fine for sterilization, but you can also sterilize by soaking them in rubbing alcohol.
Its probably less effective, but it also doesn't take a chunk of your time

Well I figured the agar will probably come out better if I boil it anyways. And 30 minutes isn't a big deal I'll just throw them in there and do something else for a while. But thanks this method might come in useful sometime.

No you can't.....alcohol does not sterilize, it only sanitizes.
Chemicals sanitize, heat sterilizes.

Alcohol will sterilize if you soak something in it for long enough.
Only difference being the name of the process and legal definition of course.

Of course you can boil them. Mason jar lids are made to be pressure cooked. Plastic or not.

Sanitization is basically sterilization by chemical process. Sterilization is by thermal process.
2 different definitions and processes for killing almost every single bacteria and microbe.
Same end result. For surface cleaning Anywho.

What do you think would happen if you just put some alcohol in a jar of sterile grains? or on agar?

If the alcohol could totally permeate the grains you'd be fine, hence "for surface cleaning Anywho"
I believe it was amanita virosa who did several experiments "sterilizing" a used plastic petri with IPA successfully.

Sry... I guess I shouldnt stick to the fact that I know my method works by result. I even use ziploc over mason 75% of the time.
Shit! what will I do to correct all of the success I've had!?

Its probably less effective, but it also doesn't take a chunk of your time
and even you say yourself, probably less effective and whats 30 minutes of your time to do it right? iso isn't all that cheap or effective so idon't know how you can brag about "all this success" when your talking about cleaning up your failures

It's a fact, alcohol won't sterilize a lid. Soak a piece of contaminated grain in alcohol. Then, transfer that to some sterilized grain and see what happens.
Honestly though, if we're just talking about the lid or the jar, there's no need to sterilize them. just wash with soap and water and they will get sterilized along with your next project.
If you have a jar of contaminated spawn or cake, sterilize them before you open and dump them. Then just wash the lid and jar with soap and water.

also learned something else pretty cool....maybe u guys don't remember this, but i do because it was happening primarily in PA, but there was a "button mushroom blight" many years ago, and no one knew what was causing it. u can look it up on google. anyways, as a last ditch effort, the switched from grain spawn to alternative spawn (no/low grain solid innoculant) to try and combat it (some odd species of mold) anyways, turns out, this mold was coming from their ALCOHOL (iso) and almost all the farms were ordering it in bulk from same company.....it had somehow become resistant to the iso, and as soon as they switched to "sterile" alcohol the problem went away ("sterile" iso is like pre packaged bottles, processed/filled/double bagged in sterile rooms instead of buying gallon of iso and filling bottles urself). pretty crazy, huh? not my post just thought it was relevant to the arguement
