To pick or not to pick
    #20276516 - 07/15/14 12:37 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

I am just coming to the end(ish) of my first attempt at growing shrooms. However, after reading a few conflicting posts, yesterday, I decided to pick the shrooms that have just split the veils and ones that opened their gills but left the rest of the small shrooms. If anyone has any advice on what I should do with the rest (should I pick em all off and water or leave as is till they develop further).
Pic below (hopefully)

Thanks in advance

Thats fine. You can pick as needed. They tend to open a lil more as they dry too

they still look like pins to me, i usually wait until the veil just starts to tear so i know that mushroom was not gonna double in size over night.

Thanks. I was more worried that they wouldn't continue growing or just go wrong if I disturbed them. In the pic tht I uploaded can anyone see any obvious aborts. I'm still a noob n don't quite understand things I read until I see them first hand.

Thanks again

Aborts caps go all black and stop growing, im still new at this too so im not sure when is best to harvest aborts i had some sit so long the caps went soft and they just wiped off that is probably too long not good.

All of yours look  good there is a guy on the left with that dimple i think that might be from it being to wet but its not an abort,

If you know you're going to be around to watch them I tend to wait until I see the veil elongate and then pick before it breaks.

If I know I'm going to be leaving I pick early because no one likes to see "over ripe" caps in their bag and then eat them

Not an exact science, picking early can cost you weight

I check on them once a day in the evening, im hoping to pull them just as the veil starts to tear but with 24 hour between seeing them and the rate they grow i will just have to cross my fingers.
