Patching Procedure
    #20273218 - 07/14/14 08:04 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

My tray of verm/coir and bird seed is fully colonized and I am just about to patch it and place it in the fruiting chamber.  How much substrate do I need to place over the colonized layer?  I'm assuming I don't need to dump a whole bunch on top of there.  Is simply covering the colonized layer sufficient??

You don't need to add any substrate on top of the fully colonized substrate.

But couldn't overlay become a problem if I don't patch it?

Overlay will not be a problem if you don't patch. When you say patch do you mean case? Some people patch their casing after the first flush.

If you're growing cubes, forget the word overlay.

I mean, if you want to case go for it but it's not necessary.
