Spawning from BRF jars with large pins.
    #20270887 - 07/14/14 11:54 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

FYI for anyone interested:

I recently spawned into bulk bags . . . some of the jars I used were "old". Meaning, they were incubated for long enough to have some large fruit-bodies growing inside the 1/2 pt jars.  These jars were contingency for a pf tek I was doing.

I broke up the BRF cakes and tore apart the large fruit-bodies and added them to the sterilized bags.  They colonized very well.

Have a great day! Happy growing!

Pics? How long has it been since you put the fruit body in to the bag? Was it an inside sample or just the whole fruit?

I wish I had thought to take pics, but they've been nom nom'd into a bulk substrate, so let me try and describe it well.

After the half pint jars were 100% colonized, I let them sit for 3 more weeks inside the jar (because they were leftovers from another project and there was no room to fruit them).  They had *huge* pins growing inside the 1/2 pint jars, snaking around the inside, turning blue in spots, and shrinking the cake itself.

It's been since June 20th when they were added to sterilized bulk bags... they've almost 100% colonized the bags.

Hope that answers your questions.
