drying.
    #20270438 - 07/14/14 10:18 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

how can one tell when the mushrooms have dried out enough to use desiccants on them? i've read that two days in front of a box fan on a window sill then 2 days in a box with desiccants. is this right? I've bin drying mine for just one day on the window sill/box fan and they feel like they are getting close to cracker should i just put them in the Tupperware with the desiccant now or wait till tomorrow?

climate has an affect on dying times doing it this way. Just check and see if they are getting any drier. once you notice they aren't getting any drier, that's when they go in the desiccant.

Honestly though, get a dehydrator.

Go spend the money and get an excaliber.  Those things are wicked good and can hold a large quantity each cycle

So can a $30 Nesco with a few extra trays......and you can save over $100+ and your fruits will be just as dry in the same amount of time.

Trying to stay on topic, what is this threads take on sun drying mushrooms? I've used a nesco and I've used a rock on the roof and besides the extra day on the roof I don't see a difference in potency. Personally I enjoy the look of sun dried mushrooms, much more lively.

2 days should be enough unless you're talking about large mushroooms. Just be sure to you use excessive amounts of desiccant so it doesn't saturate.

I have a few Nescos. They were cheap and work great. I had the fan on one burn out actually and it almost set my house on fire when the dehydrator started to melt. Gotta keep an eye on them. Kind of scary.

Tripdawg, what strain in those pictures? AA+? They're pretty.
