Food Dehydrator Mod Tec
    #2025799 - 10/20/03 03:47 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

My friend , many years back, bought a food dehydrator from wally world for $40. Thinking "cool beef jerky!" etc. well he discovered it was a pain in the ass and not much cheeper than buying the shit so it's been collecting dust. He got tired of his mushies sitting out in the open, with a fan hitting them. So here's what he did;

There was a plate underneath the top section of the unit that was screwed on with 8 srews. He removed the plate and low and behold the heating element was afixed to the plate with three wires atatched. He clipped the black wire and now the heating element doesn't work. Tada! Instant enclosed drying system. This unit has several removable racks that have a fairly small grid for those small pieces that always want to slip through the cracks. And now he doesn't have to worry about his screen being nocked over.
Hope this helps!

That's all well and good except the food dehydrator prob has a 95 degree setting if I know the model - and that is so low (think hot day) that it's not necessary to remove the heating element :smile:

What would happen if you put some dessicant in the bottom of it? I assume this would speed up the drying process?

That's a good idea. There is a tec somewhere suggesting using a fan in the same container as desicant to move the air around.

Yes the lowest setting is 95 however, he was under the impression that warmth decreases potency. Anyway doesn't matter it wasn't mine :smile: and he's happy
