Will someone please take a look at this plate and tell me if this is tomatose myc or what? It behaves like mycelium as far as how fast it has grown. It presumably came from a clean plate as well but I've been having all sorts of contam issues lately so I'd like another set of eyes.

This plate is growing almost perfect radially like mold would. I doubt its an isolates as my other plates still have 2-4 sectors on them.

Looks fine to me, but my eyes suck.
It's tomentose, not tomatose.

How can you determine sectors on a plate like this? My other plates still have sectors so I'm assuming this one does too.

That's not mold, but does look odd due to it being strongly tomentose growth.
I have no idea how to go about identifying sectors in that(if there even are any), and considering how tomentose it is I'm not sure why you'd want to.

Take a sample to a new dish with less nutrients and I bet you'll see some rhizomorphic growth.
Mycellium will often go from rhizomorphic to cottony and back based on the food source.

I don't see any sectors on that plate. Looks like you have a monoculture. Good job. Time to test it now.

So you can see sectors with cottony mycelium? And PF is correct, this was taken from a highly rhizomorphic sector on less nutritious agar.

so i could be totally wrong here, but what i mean when i say it looks weird is that there is that white stuff on top, but its not reaching out to the edge. wispiness/tomentose/linear whatever u wanna call it is normal, be it from too many strain not differentiating/sectoring yet, early on in a culture, or just the nature of that particular set of genetics. this is a plate 2nd transfer from spore (so third plate) with wispiness, but no solid white on top of it.
contaminates usually grow outside leading edge, or right at it, so thats why its weird to me, cause thats not happening with urs, its just sitting on top. I've been wrong a million times tho, just throwing it out there

It goes rhizomorphic reaching out for food.
On a highly nutritious substrate it tends to grow slower(taking it's sweet ass time eating), and look more like that(cottony) or tomentose.

This is why we don't put much nutrition in our agar unless it's for long-term storage. The less stuff to eat in there (to a point) the faster they're gonna grow to look for more.

Yeah the culture went from half strength agar to full (about 8.5g LME) per 500ml and most of my plates are now like this and I'm none too happy about it.

Because apparently I can't tell an isolate on tomentose myc.
