condensation and tubs
    #20252961 - 07/10/14 12:38 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hey I just put a new tub into fruiting conditions.. it must have been a lil on the heavy side or something because im getting lots of condensation.

I always get condensation but this is dripping off the lid and kinda standing I  drops on the substrate... almost matting down in a few places.

Should I worry about this and can I fix it if its a prob

Thanks

p sure it has to do with temp difference inside and out, maybe try drying the lid off when you see it?

If there is condensation on the lid of a monotub to the point of dripping on the substrate, wipe it off.

Condensation in a monotub is normal tho....there should be rings of dryness around each hole.

If it's excessive pooling you can just dab it up with a papertowel.

Yea, it gets bad sometimes in the summer with the inside temps goes up and down. I always have to dab some off the tops of my tubs and dry the lids from time to time in between flushes. It wont hurt anything though as long as the sub is mostly colonized already.  other wise you gotta watch out for contams getting in.

You do realize that when the tub was mixed, it was most likely done in open air, which means literally millions of contams were mixed deep into the substrate itself.....the bulk sub is supposed to be pasteurized and contam resistant at this point.

Does the pooling cause any problems?

I understand but I use coco coir and I pasturize it and then mix with fully colonized grain. And Ive had plenty of tubs contam after this point so I try not to allow any more contams than I have to get in at ANY step of the way. But I do know what your saying. And no not really. I mean you dont want a swimming pool in there, but a little pooling wont hurt it. and like said its noting a paper towel wont fix.

seems to me that the layer of BW would keep the pools of water off the substrate

i aint done any tubs in a while

but i did have a problem with that water pooling up causing contams

could be talking out my ass too

i need to start another project dammit

aint tripped in a while

Illl check to see if the waters gone later. I think if I wipe the heavy dew off a few times it'll stop

Insulate your lid by setting a towel on it or something and if you have multiple tubs stack them.
