Correct pasteurization procedure???
    #20253489 - 07/10/14 02:43 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

So the other day I mixed up a bulk substrate of coir and verm.  I planned on pasteurizing it in a bag in my microwave, so I took some 409 and paper towels and cleaned all the food and grease bits out the best that I could.  Despite this, I am currently kicking myself over the fact that I forgot to spray lysol inside and outside the microwave before pasteurizing my bulk substrate.  Should I be worried about contamination because of my forgetting to spray the lysol?

I would think that anything being nuked is going to be sterile - some what at least - on the inside of the microwave. That's just my :2cents:

Fair enough, would using an oven bag and heating it up in an oven be more efficient?

A microwave has no place in mycology. Neither does your oven.

Pasteurize in jars in a water bath on your stove.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.
