Beats me dr_gonz. My brother who works for Walmart is able to let me and a few friends know when it comes in on the truck and we buy it up as soon as it comes in. I know a few of the other gun dealers here also buy it up like crazy and then mark it up $10-15 more than what it was marked as. Pretty crazy.

I think a 22LR to the head of a zombie would just irritate it. That's what my 5.56 is for.

I have many thousands of rounds of 22lr and magnum for my 5 22s. If you store it right it keeps well. Up until a few years ago I was shooting some rounds from the 70s. They pack a punch after sitting around so long.
But the Magnum is really where it's at imo. A very underrated caliber. I'd have no problem hunting deer (or evildoers) with it if that were legal.

I have a couple hundred rounds for my Ruger 10/22 but I've only got about 50 hollowpoints. It sucks. At least I can still get 5.56x45 pretty cheaply online.

ive gathered about 6k worth of .22lr in the last 6 months.
there is no shortage of the shit.
its a fake made up bullshit by some company ATK? (i believe) that really makes it seem like it is in tough supply.. it really isnt dry per say.
but the 90 dollar 550 federal bricks are outrageous due to this fake ass bullshit...
pris explained it better, but there is more to it than what he had said..
its all bullshit... but trust me keep up the hunt there is still deals out there. loop holes to everything.

Once the ammo leaves the manufacturer it is supposed to go to the Distributor ( Walmart ). But it is being intercepted. It is then being sold on Gunbroker for a huge markup.

It's because everyone and their grandma has a 22. I just bought a mosin negant for really cheap. Shoots the Russian equivalent of a .308 and has really cheap russian surplus ammo. Can't help but have fun blasting a huge round for 22 cents a piece

I think it comes down to timing. You gotta ask the person at wallyworld or where ever what day they get the order. Usually sells out in a day or two. But if its being sold before it even hits the shelf I don't know whats up with that...

if your search for inexpensive .22lr is constrained to places like wallyworld your not looking hard enough.

Well yeah true. I think someone mentioned wally. I think ammo in general is a lot more expensive buying it from an actual sporting goods store. Why spend the extra five or what ever per box?

just look harder man.
its all gone up but 22lr are still readily available and affordable. not like in the 80's but still relatively cheap. kinda why i started loading my own. that shit gets cheap in quantity.

My local gun shop only sells one box a day. Or I can call up sporting stores and pick up by the brick when they get a shipment but my area is usually always dry of .22 ammo

It's still dry here

This used to be under $20. I haven't seen it at Walmart in well over a year

Maybe at Wal-Mart. My loca Wal-Mart is dry too but sporting shops still buy it constantly. Only problem is they run out quick.

Going to the local sporting goods store and putting in an order has worked for me. It is rough not being able to waltz in and pick up a box whenever I please, but I really cant complain when I can still pick up a 5 gallon bucket full a few days after I would have bought my 50 rnd box.

Yeah I need to do that one of these days. A brick would last me a good few months of target practice.
I got ahold of some sub sonic ammo, really weird. It's almost silent besides the bullet when it hits the target.

I use "CB Caps" They are quieter than a BB gun and surprisingly accurate. I think one reason that they've got you over a barrel is because they aren't re-loadable. I can roll my own still for pretty inexpensive, but .22's don't work that way.
