Blue/green spots. Contams?
    #20248716 - 07/09/14 04:22 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

This is a first attempt at a rye tec I found on this forum. The colonization of the jars went just fine. They were then put over a layer of coir/verm with a layer on top and put back in the incubator. Since then they have been moved to a fruiting chamber running a humidifier and a hepa/uvc filter. Today there are some blue/green splotches on one of the trays. I tried wiping it with a qtip which came away clean despite me wiping fairly hard. I've heard that means it's safe but it's still a little sketch. Can anyone give me an identification?

qtip test is bullshit, even bruising will come off sometimes, from that picture it looks like bruising, give it time and make sure it doesnt spread, or get fuzzy

It's bruising.

The Q-tip test is NOT bullshit, at least not always. Despite the fact bruising can rub off sometimes and give a false positive, sporulated mold will always rub off onto the q-tip.. The Q-tip test, though potentially misleading(false positives for contamination), served it's purpose in this instance.
