Albino (?) Ecuador first grow (questions inside pls help o god)
    #20247477 - 07/09/14 12:16 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Cubensis Ecuador. Caps and stems look completely normal and healthy except right where they attach to the cakes the stems are very skinny, not even half the diameter of the rest of the stem. I can provide pics if need be

Anyway, is this a bad/abnormal thing?

particularly on the third you can see it. it's actually even thinner nearer the cake

Verm doesn't really work well for humidifying a FC...the cakes will be trying to colonize it as well so they will be putting energy into that instead of just growing mushrooms

Not for humidity, for water reservoir. I mist regularly and have perlite in the larger tub. I figured if rolling and casing help with yields then a large bottom casing layer should do some good.

Anyone know anything about the thin stems?

I guess I'll do that since you're far more experienced than I, but why is the concept wrong? Double end casing is recommended for cakes, so why would this be a bad idea?

because it needs to know it has all the food available to it to fruit properly, wehn you put it on top of more food it wants to eat it, sit it on some foil and get soem perlite and to hydrate cakes just mist as needed

When you roll or double end case it's a finite amount and the mycelium colonizes the little bits that it will then it's done, the verm dries out with the cake. You have them on wet verm constantly so they are probably always trying to do something with it. That's how I've always looked at it at least.

They can get too much water too, you want the cakes to kinda dry out a little in between mistings, just for like an hr or so

they do dry out, at least to my eye, and i use a little USB fan to fan them pretty strongly for about a minute after each misting

and I thought verm was non-nutritional, or just had some trace minerals?

well, anyway. can i just leave the verm there and put some foil beneath the cakes? i'd rather not clean it all out at the moment if i don't have to

If it has trace minerals, then it is not non nutritious....

Ah, I assumed there wasn't enough for any real nutritional value but I guess that's incorrect

So another question just came to mind... If it is nutritional, then wouldn't it be fine to let the cakes colonize it a bit for extra nutes -> larger shrooms or more flushes? Or should I just do what works and lay some foil down?

Well if you want that you should have spawned them to bulk.

You want them to fruit now, but they are wasting energy trying to colonize the verm.

Get them off the verm, and get the verm out of there and replace it with perlite.
