cottony mycelium in jars, cobweb mold?? with pics
    #20246882 - 07/09/14 09:36 AM (10 years, 6 months ago)

Hello. I'm on my second grow but the first was almost eight years ago. I have this cottony looking mycelium on the bottom of my BRF cakes that are almost fully colonized (well top as I flipped them due to slow growth, which was my fault cause I had masking tape AND foil on them. I have since taken both tape and foil off)....these are the b+ strain, and I've read that b+ myc always looks fuzzy so am I overly paranoid?

Anyway now I have this dark, wet verm in the uncolonized areas, and still very slow growth. There are slight brown spots on myc, which I think may be metabolites. Also there is an Amber bubble on one...is this wet bubble?

I had 12 brf jars. Today is 27 days incubating...these are the only two with any disturbing signs. The rest I will be dunking, rolling and maybe DEC today. Then birthing

They are incubated at 78 degrees although during a few hot days they got up to around 87 but this was weeks ago. After moving to the cool basement growth bounced back quickly but that's when I noticed the fuzz on top. It's been over for days since I noticed it and no odor or change except the Amber bubble which you can't really see in the pics.  Any thoughts? Are these two different contaminations? I separated these two away from the others, there's no foul smell just mushroomy. Please help.

Seriously, no one will help me? I followed the posting rules. I am just wondering if maybe it's fine cause b+ on all the pictures I've seen seems very cottony and thick. It seems to be doing better today, with growth that's new and healthy growing past the yellow spots.

They look fine, though the pictures aren't the clearest.

I think you at least have some bacteria on the bottoms there. I wouldn't have flipped them like that when you're only using a Vermiculite layer as a filter.

I totally see the bacteria now Kizzle, towards the top. You can see the greasy outline. Kizzle, you have a great eye for contaminants brother.

As long as the jars fully colonize, the bacteria would probably not be an issue for fruiting.
