Humidifier experiment.

Well here's my crazy idea number 5002. A warm mist humidifier hosed directly into a cool mist humidifier.... The warm mister would neutralize baddies and the coolmist would...sorta cool the air down? Probably wouldn't work is the thought in my head as I type this. But I will figure out a way....I will!

What about the "baddies" in the cool mist? One of those ideas that sound good but not possible with your parts.

It wouldn't kill contaminants, if that's what you're thinking. That's done at around 120C in a pressure cooker for an hour or more. Also fruiting isn't sterile anyway.

Maybe sterile isn't the right word to use around you guys. Super clean air....as clean as possible with least amount of effort. So like one humidifier design that I am going to have to revive is a gallon pickle jar with a ultra sonic mister in it and I used a fish tank air pumps to pressurize the the jar and a vacuum cleaner hose to duct the out going humidified air into the FC. So if I were to stick all of that into a small clear tote that had tyvek vents then the air would be scrubbed but then it would be impossible to add more water without opening the tub from time to time.

some of my funnest grows were in nice and dirty air with no fruiting chamber so it's hard to see any advantage other then prints and if thats the goal fruit invitro or grow some stones, yes contams are the enemy but don't let it get to your head

The only way to get clean air is to filter it. Even then, the most expensive systems are not 100% Add in that if properly done you can fruit in open air to 4 or so flushes. By then the sub is so depleted its more worth it to throw it out and start anew.

Like others have said, having super clean air isn't a priority when fruiting. Fully colonized substrates are resistant to contamination.
But also, even if it were desirable, there are a few hitches with your plan, as others are telling you:
1. A warm mist humidifier doesn't clean the air. Some models kill most live bacteria, but some survive, along with nearly all fungal spores and bacterial endospores.
2. An aquarium air pump can't move enough air through your tote so the substrate would be starved of fresh air exchange.
3. It's helpful for humidity to vary to initiate pinning. This, along with the above, is why people who set up greenhouses use separate mechanisms for FAE and for humidity, and have at least the latter run intermittently.

Sterility is not necessary except when making spawn and cultures. Trying to fruit mushrooms in sterile air is like trying to grow an apple tree in sterile air, there's simply no need.
Also 100% humidity is not a good thing. You want some moisture loss to occur especially when trying to get them to start pinning.

Everything said about not needing super clean air is true, I myself have fruited in a tub that had no lid.....And 100% humidity 100% of the time is bad.....yep thats true too. In my tub that had no lid, I would saturated the substrate with 100% air and then turn it off so that the water could evaporate...its exactly how the mushrooms like it...so back to my goal then.....I guess no one has any ideas of how to accomplish that goal. Having the humidifiers inside a tub with a filter on it would be ok. Honestly I should just invest in a flow hood and just use it to scrub the air.....or I could build a tiny hepa air filter put it in the tub with the humidifier in it. Now thats not a bad idea!

there is 110% no reason to fruit in clean air unless you want a couple of cubes for prints, so much hassle for nuthing is never gonna be worth the effort, your talking about something thats grown around 1000's of contams for 1000's of years

I understand the point. But why are are you trying to fight me? I already understand that I don't need this! And I am still interested in having it! So instead of trying to convince me to not want it.....never mind.
I did find this...I knew about UVC lights but building a humidifier from scratch that takes advantage of the technology sounds a bit involving. Maybe I could borrow from this design
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-99-999-Germ-Free-Humidifier-Air-Mist-Room-Home-Fresh-Clean-Free-Shipping-/111400805389?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f001640d
a 99.999% humidifier. Hmmmmmm
aw shit is a steamer....the air will be too hot....So I bet they just use the Uv bulb to sterilise the air before it runs through the rest of the machine. having a cool mist in a box with a hepa vent would work just as well.
and then there was this - http://www.sears.com/vicks-v3900-germ-free-cool-mist-humidifier/p-SPM1771590801?hlSellerId=3532&sid=IDx20110310x00001i&kpid=SPM10526306613&kispla=SPM10526306613&redirectType=SRDT supposed coolmist.
And once again disappointment, its not a impeller style.

I'm so confused by this thread.
Do you want sterile water or sterile air?
Cause you'd have to seal your humidifier inside a box that had a hepa intake to achieve anything as the units suck in outside air to mix with the water

Even if you managed to address the air issue you still won't achieve sterile water. At least not without a good deal of money and work.

The hepa filter have a resistance, impellers wont suck air that hard or i am wrong? it will eventually damage your unit.
Anyway that is sooo complicated, the only advantage that could have filtering the air is as cron mentioned, taking prints. It is far more practical start learning and practicing agar, with the money that you are going to spend in the hepa filter you can buy all your tools. So you can clean all your dirty prints.
Good luck.

^^^^yea, probably easiest way to achieve what u want. see if they have filter bags with filters that don't get down to .5 microns to get more GE. reduced yield but, at least its sterile for your purposes (still unclear tho why u want it?)

Why not build a clean room with a reverse osmosis water filtration system and a huge return air hepa filter on your clean air intake into the room? Then you get clean water, and clean air. You would also need a few hazmat suits.
