My First Grow
    #20237729 - 07/07/14 03:47 PM (10 years, 6 months ago)

So this is where it all begins. My first mushie grow!! I chose the Reishi strain for its famous ability to flourish and thrive easier than most (so i heard). so i thought this would be the perfect strain for me (a beginner). i also used the "PF tek" method. I filled 6 half pint jars with a 3-2-2 ratio of vermiculite, brown rice flower, and... Dun Dun DUNNN "smart water." haha. i then sterilized the jars for an hour and a half at 10 PSI. i couldnt get the 15 PC so i compensated with an extra 30 minutes of sterilization. after the jars cooled (overnight) sterilized the SHIT out of my bathroom before inoculating all 6 jars under the vent in the bathroom (my HEPA flow hood) lol. i wore a mask and made sure all was sterilized.. needle tip, hands, etc. The only thing i did differently on my first go, which i already changed for my next 6 jars colonizing now, is used WAY too much innoculant. for 6 jars i used 12 CC haha. SO so due to excess moisture the jars colonized in 3 weeks rather than 2. 4 weeks including the week after jars were fully colonized. For the first week i incubated jars at about 85 degrees (stupid rookie mistake) and the first day the jars even got to 90 degrees  which i didnt let stay for long. after week 2 i removed the heating pad and let colonize at room temp (about 75-80). birthed 2 of the cakes done early 1st day, implimented the "dunk and roll tek" on these 2 cakes. let soak for about 25 hours before casing in vermiculite baked at 300 degrees for 20 or 30 min i dont remember. then placed them in the aquarium. i didnt forget to wash between birth and dunking and then dunking and rolling. i then let cakes 3,4,5, and 6 sit in the morning sun while stillin their jars. (this initiated pinning in 12 hours). these cakes got pretty warm in the sun! second day i birthed cakes 3 and 4 but did NOT dunk them overnight, or at all. i just rinsed them, and then cased and put into aquarium with pins showing. the 3rd day i soaked cakes 5 and 6 with pins for about 26 hours. i wanted to experiment with only a 12 hour soak with these cakes, but couldnt get home to pull them in time. i jacked up my first aquarium by using a glass tank with no airflow other than myself vacuuming out the CO2 from the bottom of the tank. after discussing on this very hear website, what kind of aquarium i needed, i went out today and bought a bigger, plastic tub and strategically drilled holes all up in it for propper FAE in the right kind of FC! gosh i like boomer lingo.! luckily my baby cakes were only in the glass aquaium suffocating for about 48 hours. keep in mind i was vacuuming out CO2. (: ... i am using 2 light fixtures. 1 fluorescent tube on top and 1 L.E.D light at the side (refer to pictures). i am running a 12/12 schedule and have implimented a few different variations to my first grow in order to experiment and see what to stick with next time around. i have an electronic temp/humidity guage inside of the aquarium and the temp is now lingering at about 70-76 degrees. Humidity swaying between 92-98% (i want 100 ). i would also like to note that while putting perlite into aquarium i built up a hill inside building up twords the middle so that the cakes would be up higher from the CO2 draining down the hill, like sacred mushrooms on a mountain top (: i also carved in trenches/ditches for the CO2 to flow down and then out of the holes (you can see in the pictures). i now have 4 mushies coming out of 2 of the cakes, surprisingly they are the 2 cakes that i did NOT Dunk. will be keeping you posted on "My First Grow." any advice/tips/input/opinions/ would be greatly appreciated.

quit fucking with co2, besides it doesnt sink silly just focus on misting, thats all you need to do with a sgfc, humidity will always be perfect as it's surface humidity that counts

You almost had one right there with that tub, 1/4 holes every 2 inches in a grid is what you needed.

you cant really see them in the pictures but i have a LOT of small bit holes surrounding the bottom of my tub where the perlite level is. a LOT of holes at the top of the top. and multiple larger holes on the top and on every side. but ok i will slit some oxtra notches/holes in the side. i now understand the more the merrier!

welp i already drilled in a total of 14 inch wide holes along with a but ton of the prolly eighth of an inch holes. i feel that the larger holes will even out the equation a bit. possibly even allowing for extra air exchange ?!?  ill let you guys know! but next time, ill do it right!

New people should not attempt to wing it at any point. SGFC's(shotgun fruiting chambers) work so well because they are designed well.

Its true man. For your first few grows read a bunch of good teks and follow the consistent information to a T. Experience the concepts in action and then experiment if you still want to
