Mushroom Hunting in Ireland

I've never hunted for mushrooms before though I can't wait 'till they start growing here in a few months anyway I was wondering what shrooms grow in Ireland? And no its not in "What psilocybin mushrooms grow wild in my area?" because I've checked. Also a general guideline as to when they grow would be appreciated.

Great! Thanks.
I PMd some Irish members with this same question here are the answers I got:
Quote:
arite neighbour,
there is a little handbook out called "a guide to british psilocybin mushrooms. by richard cooper" i got it on amazon it pretty much covers all that we have growing in our fields
the shrooms it mentions are: panaolina foenisecii panaeolus campanulatus psilocybe coprophila psilocybe montana psilocybe semilanceata hyphaloma cyanescens.
hope this is some help

I also came accross this following list in an old thread in response to your same question
Quote:
Psilocybe fimetaria Amanita muscaria Gymnopilus spectabilis Gymnopilus viridans Panaeolus subbalteatus Psilocybe silvatica. Psilocybe semilanceata.
Also, in an old thread MJ shroomer said Cyans grow here in Ireland.

Hey chief, the only ones i know of are liberty caps,
Panaeolus subbalteatus, it grows in lots of fields and even new parks but mainly in horse fields since they are well fertilised. i have found it but only a few, iv only found a few surrounded by loads of Panaeolus foenisecii
Gymnopilus junonius, grows in the forest but i havnt found it
Psilocybe cyanescens, grows on woodchips but havnt found it
Amanita muscaria grow here too, my mate found one in the forest
The most plentiful and consistent in strength are the liberty caps, i suppose thats why everyone picks only them
That's everything I could find on mushrooms in Ireland in a nutshell. Hope you have luck, Happy Shroomin

Psilocybe semilanceata aka "libs" or "liberty caps" are your best bet. My mom used to pick them mainly in sheep pastures in Ireland and Wales when I was a kid. I know the British Isles are full of them. Season is starting in about 2 months time. Until then I'd look for Panaeolus cinctulus, which aren't nearly as potent, but very common.

Thanks for the replies, should be handy :P
Purely scientifically :P, how many Panaeolus Cinctulus would be needed to get a decent trip?

Check out the dosage calculator. It's not 100% accurate (which is impossible, because activity can vary from specimen to specimen), but it's accurate enough: http://www.shroomery.org/6257/Magic-Mushroom-Dosage-Calculator

...and my unscientific 2 cents is 30-40 fresh p. cincts would be a nice first ride, depending on size, but that is very, very unscientific

Just to let you know, panaeolina foenisecci are not active, neither is deconica corophilia ( not a psilocybe any more.) I don't believe panaeolus campantualus are either. H.cyanescens is a psilocybe now too.
Just updating names for you.
Ireland should be good for all species mentioned, especially libs.
Good look my emerald cousins.

I'm from Ireland and I've recently found some Panaeolus Cinctulus.
Last year was a good season for libs for me.
Haven't found any Psilocybe Cyanescens yet.
I think I have found Gymnopilus Luteoviridis before. Didn't take any pictures or anything, so I could be doubted.
Happy hunting! The season is just around the corner!
