Equador strain to fruit in mycobags
    #2022633 - 10/19/03 02:53 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

i wish to use mycobags for my equadors, i intend to colonize and fruit in the bags, and keep the bags in a controlled chamber. I wanted to know what the ideal substrate would be, grain or straw mycobags. also, any recomendations on the chamber i wish to keep them in are welcome. Never used mycobags before, but am a sterility junkie.

much appreciation,

kilgore trout

Grain is the best for fruiting out of the bag. Straw will need to be cased.

As for sterility, that is the beauty of MycoBags. They ARE sterile.

Any incubator that will keep them dry and around 80 degrees will work. Don't worry too much about the outside of the bag. The inside is sterile and it is only at risk during inoculation... unless you poke a hole in the bag or you get the filter patch wet, you're fine.

My friend, Don Quixote, likes to keep his bags on his monitor so he can watch 'em as they incubate.

Many people give their bags TOO much love. The beauty of a MycoBag is you don't need to do anything but wait for picking.

Don't expect lightning fast results. Mycobags are not the fastest colonizers. Expect at least a two month wait before you get shrooms.

Once it is fully colonized, your bag should be pretty resistant to contams. Always be careful, you don't want to contaminate your bag while you're oicking... but you don't need to lose sleep over it.

Good luck.
