oh yes, notice the slight blue tint where the pellicle was peeled from the caps in the last pics, actually it is more visable in the pics than with the naked eye, i think its something to do with the flash, but it just looks sorta slightly green to the naked eye. oh, and if anyone disagrees with my ID here please speak up, ill admit im not totally sure. tho im quite sure they are gymnopilus, i suppose they could be spectabilus too, but then ill be honest im not sure. I'd LOVE to know for sure. some of these had a slight reminant of a fuzzy veil, the young ones had them more noticeably, very characteristic if the courtinariacae family.

directly from a stump good orange rust print, very dirty mushrooms, handling mature spesimines turns your hands reddish orangy-brown, there was alot of these, however, i find these to be my least favorite active mushroom, basically, if these were in anyway a worthwhile mushroom potency-wise, then id have kilos and kilos dried for basically giving away (pretty much what i do with pan subbs)
i usually keep libs for myself and closests friends.
Personally i cant get enough of these into me to be worth my time, and i know niggy cant even keep a few of these down. :P

they indeed are active, containign psylocybin and psilocin, hence the slight bluing in the last pic on the caps. they are also relitively weak and VERY bitter, personally i dont find them that bitter, but i know people who find them unreasonably bitter, that combined with the fact you need to eat alot of them makes for what i would call an unworthwhile experience, but if youre really hard up.... i suppose ive eaten enough to get a threshold trip one time. but that was like 10 grams, you would probably want to eat over a dry oz. possibly 2 or 3. or like a wet pound, what i have here is about a kilo.... thats hard to do.

Even with Hesler's monograph it's not obvious which species to call those.
Gymnopilus aeruginosus seems a reasonable guess. G. luteofolius is very similar in appearance. The main difference seems to be that G. aeruginosus should be primarily greenish on the cap when young. There are also two other very similar species (G. braendlei and G. pulchrifolius) which are characterized as having pinkish colors on the caps.
Even the microscopic descriptions of these species are basically very similar.
Great photographs and specimens.
Happy mushrooming!

Actually, I don't know about the dosages. I'm sure you know more about that than I do.

Well, due to some recent conversations and findings by Mr Rockefeller concerning G. Subspectabilis being confirmed in the East of North America. I dug up these old pics to show him, and he reccomended i Dig up this old thread by me from the past.
I was reluctant because I'm old enough to be my own dad now. But this is a good chance to see where we have come.
Heres an article describing the newer species in the G. junonius group. https://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/bitstream/1807/100286/1/cjb-2020-0006.pdf
Alan Rockefeller just posted a thread in the hunting forum today reguarding the confirmation in Alabama and Georgia.
Nice little bit of nostalgia here. Some old school work from Brother Toxic.

What state did you find these in?
I agree with your ID, definitely Gymnopilus subspectabilis.
