Casing mycelium is still growing, why?
    #2021204 - 10/18/03 08:55 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I made my first casing, everything seems to have worked fine, now, it has been in the terrarium for 2 days and it seems like the mycelium keeps growing, it's starting to come up and I fear it will grow on top.

Any suggestions? Maybe humidity is too high? (I feel like it is).

chill man that's exactly what you want. It will allow for a more even pin set. congrats.

"Yep..."

I'm at day 7 of my first casing right now...
When I brought my casing from the incubator the verm was about 30% colonized. At around day 4 the casing was about 50% covered. At day 5 little fuzzy knots were seen growing in the mycelium. The next day I had my very first group of pinns. Now on days seven I've got several one inch pinns.

Hang in there man, everything going fine for ya ....

it's called mycelial momentum - it's still progressing, even in fruiting conditions. some strains like PR have so much momentum that growers have to 'birth' casings with little or no incubation, or else it'll overlay. there's a good pic of what overlay looks like in the pictures forum right now.

i try to birth my casings when they look like this:

the mycelium is visible right under the surface, but not on the top itself. you'll read about 'valleys' in the casing layer, which is confusing as shit - basically you want to be able to see it, but only just.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I will calm down and let nature do its work. All my experiences with mushrooms until now have shown that you just have to wait, they grow themselves.

But it is hard to keep anxiety levels down...
