I just got some Tyvek. I know its good for gas exchange. I have some BRF jars incubating, that i'd like to take lids off and keep only Tyvek with rubber band as barrier. Would this be advisable?
Theres a dry verm layer between the loose lid and outside environment.
I am afraid to introduce contaminants to my cakes.
Maybe, i shouldnt risk it, theres already 4 holes on top of the lids... What do you think?

No, but then again neither is incubating, soooooo......yea.
The BRF cakes already have a dry verm layer, that is all the filter you need.
Just let them be. The less you mess with them the better.

they will get plenty of gas exchange with the lid on. I do not tape the holes on my jars after inoculation though because the dry verm layer keeps contam out.

just clarifying, you don't wanna disturb your dry verm layer either (i.e. don't fuck with your jars till they're done )
If any contams have fallen in the verm, you could easily distribute those nasties in your jar.
your myc will be displeased

Dos Ounce! thank you, that makes sense! So once they r sterile, and inoc'd just f*ck off but don't fck wit it lol....
i am paying for an accidental disturbance in a jar now lol... i was loosening the lid to promote gas exchange (my "favorite jar" none-the-less) and boom, lid slipped opened for a millisecond. Now, i've got a cobweb bloom all over that b*tch!
hahaha... okay, so, im getting SFD soon, but how does one innoc thru the SFD lid?
